UNDIP, Jepara (May 24, 2025) – In support of environmental conservation and sustainable development, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Universitas Diponegoro carried out a tree planting activity at the Teluk Awur UNDIP campus in Jepara on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
As one of Indonesia’s largest women’s organizations, Dharma Wanita Persatuan plays a strategic role in the national development landscape, including efforts to preserve natural resources and the environment. Through its contributions to education, economy, and social affairs, DWP UNDIP supports the university’s mission to become a green campus. This effort is reflected in Universitas Diponegoro’s consistent achievement as the 2nd Best Sustainable Campus according to the UI GreenMetric rankings for five consecutive years.
The tree planting event was facilitated by the Jepara Campus Management Agency (Badan Pengelola Kampus Jepara / BPKJ) of Universitas Diponegoro. It reflects UNDIP’s ongoing commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
Various types of native trees were planted and selected for their adaptability and ecological benefits. The activity is expected to help reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and support biodiversity on campus, contributing to a cooler and more comfortable learning environment at UNDIP.
UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., who also serves as the advisor to DWP UNDIP, expressed his appreciation for the initiative. “Spending time with the DWP members is always exciting—they bring so many creative and valuable ideas, not only for individuals but also for society and the environment,” said Prof. Suharnomo. He also emphasized the importance of work-life balance, stressing the need for a healthy balance in human life. He continued that a happy mother and a harmonious home can have a significant influence on a husband’s motivation and performance in the workplace.
Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Widiasa, S.T., M.T., Head of the UNDIP Jepara Campus Management Agency (BPKJ), reaffirmed the university’s efforts to enhance academic quality by developing adequate infrastructure. The development includes the Science and Techno Park Directorate (DSTP), which features integrated laboratories, academic buildings, student dormitories, aquaculture facilities, and maritime-themed recreational zones. The DSTP at UNDIP Jepara has pioneered various innovations in marine product development, aquaculture, and tourism.
DWP UNDIP Chairperson Dewi Widayani Suharnomo highlighted the benefits experienced by women actively involved in DWP activities. Through the three core focus areas—education, economy, and social affairs—members are empowered to positively impact both their families and the wider community.
This collaborative tree-planting event between DWP UNDIP and BPKJ UNDIP marks a concrete step in supporting UNDIP’s vision of a green and livable campus that promotes productivity and sustainability. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ut)
