UNDIP Held Socialization of Library and UNDIP Press Services in the Framework of Towards a World-Class University

To realize the Diponegoro University campus as a World-Class University, Undip held socialization of Library and Undip Press services on Thursday (10/8/2023) in the UPT Library and Undip Press building, 2nd Floor, Tembalang Campus, Semarang. The library is an essential foundation in the fundamental aspects of achieving this goal by increasing literacy in reading interest to catch up with other countries, such as Japan, and even our neighboring country Singapore which has a high reading interest and is the most intelligent in the world. Undip, through the development of a mobile library, is a pioneer in increasing high literacy levels.

Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D. as Vice Rector III of Diponegoro University, said the Press Library and Undip are currently carrying out a lot of developments and innovations that are moving towards digital. Diponegoro University targets to compete in the next few years and enter the world’s top 500 as a World-Class university. Of course, literacy and interest in reading in Indonesia must increase to compete and occupy this position.

“Interest in reading in Indonesia is still low and affects various sectors in Indonesia. Currently, Indonesia is ranked 68th out of 175 of the poorest countries in the world and has a debt of 3000 trillion and a level of nutritious food consumption that is still far behind that of other countries; of course, this is cause for concern. Undip, through its library, will spearhead a mental revolution effort for big dreams in the future,” he continued.

The Head of UPT Library and Undip Press, Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom delivered the second material. He said the library carried out many renovations to make it more futuristic and equipped with various supporting facilities to increase student visits. Many developments and innovations, such as web development, Grammarly, and Turnitin services, have been carried out. The services aim to facilitate students who are in the research stage to provide comfortable services.

“The Undip Library also opens a joint discussion forum which students can access every Wednesday in the library room. To facilitate access to borrowing and returning books, the UPT Library is currently developing a web service that can be accessed online so students don’t have to bother going to the library if they want to borrow or return books. We hope that many students will visit the Undip library and feel comfortable with the development and innovation facilities that have been carried out as they are today,” he concluded.
