UNDIP Inaugurates International Standard Basketball Sports Hall

Undip added one international standard facility, the Basketball Sports Hall (GOR), located east of the Undip Stadium and adjacent to the Undip Education Reservoir. This sports facility is named after Prof. Dr. dr. Susilo Wibowo, M.S.Med., Sp. And(K). He is the former Rector of Diponegoro University, who served from 2006 to 2010. The inauguration ceremony took place Friday morning (1/9/2023) by the Rector of Diponegoro University, attended by the Vice Rectors, Chair of the Academic Senate, Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dean of Faculties and Schools, former Undip Rector for the 2010-2014 period Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, MES, Ph.D., and the family of the late Prof. Susilo Wibowo.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H. M. Hum. said that the naming of Prof. Dr. dr. Susilo Wibowo, M.S.Med., Sp. And(K). The naming of the new building is done to implement the Undip principle of mikul dhuwur mendhem jero (carrying high, planting deeply), which means that as children, we must respect and elevate the status of our parents. “I remember Prof. Sus always says, ‘You must shoot the highest star because if you miss, you shoot another middle star. Don’t just shoot the moon because you shoot nothing if you miss. That is the spirit of Undip to try to reach the highest place,” said Undip Rector.

“I ask permission from the family. This is part of our respect for his (Prof. Susilo Wibowo) and his family’s services. He was so enthusiastic and accomplished, of course, because of the support of his family,” added Prof. Yos Johan Utama.

The wife of the late Prof. Susilo Wibowo, Mrs. Endang Susilo Wibowo, expressed her gratitude for the award Diponegoro University gave the deceased. “We as a family would like to express our infinite gratitude for the very high appreciation to Undip, which has made his name (Prof. Susilo Wibowo) the name of a public facility at Diponegoro University. We hope that anyone who uses this building can recognize, remember, and pray for him,” he said.

The Basketball Sports Hall was built following FIBA (International Basketball Federation) standards. The basketball court is 28 meters long and 15 meters wide. The center circle has a diameter of 3.6 meters, while the three point circle has a size of 6.75 meters.

The field floor uses local wood product grade A, which is also FIBA standard. Lighting has also been considered adequate for training, matches, and shooting video documentation or television broadcasts. Undip’s new Basketball Sports Hall has spectator stands accommodating up to 900 people.
