In commemoration of the 62nd Anniversary, the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University (FK Undip) held a Scientific Oration with the theme “Malnutrition in Hospitals: Management and Financing of Health Insurance” on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 08.00 WIB in a hybrid manner via the Zoom meeting and in the Multipurpose Room, Building A, 3rd floor, FK Undip Tembalang.

In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Undip, Prof. Dr. dr. Dwi Pudjonarko, M.Kes., Sp.S(K) revealed that this scientific oration was one of a series of activities to commemorate the 62nd Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine Undip. “This year, precisely on October 1, the Faculty of Medicine Undip has entered its 62nd year since it was founded on October 1, 1961. This activity is one of a series of events for the 62nd Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine Undip, which are routinely held. Apart from the Scientific Oration, there was a grave visiting activity for the late predecessors. The grave visiting activity was carried out last Sunday, October 1, at the Undip Cemetery,” he said.

Prof. Dwi Pudjonarko added that the Faculty of Medicine Undip is one of the elements of higher education that is also responsible for producing young people who are qualified and able to adapt to the challenges of the global world. Therefore, the Faculty of Medicine Undip is tasked with implementing national development policies, especially in the field of education, that are sustainable and able to meet the demands of global development.

“There needs to be continuity from various parties, both external and internal, to develop knowledge that is in line with the dynamics of the global world. So at the 62nd Anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine Undip, the theme was Expanding Collaboration and Synergy in order to Increase the Contribution of the Faculty of Medicine Undip to Indonesia and the World,” said Prof. Dwi Pudjonarko.

The scientific oration on this year’s Anniversary raised one of the phenomena that exist in hospitals, namely malnutrition. Malnutrition in hospitals is malnutrition that occurs during hospital treatment, which is characterized by weight loss of more than 2% in the treatment of fewer than 7 days, 5% in the treatment of 8-30 days, or 10% in the treatment of more than 30 days.

The result is a longer duration of treatment, longer physical recovery, increased disease complications, and increased morbidity and mortality rates. Apart from that, one of the detrimental effects is an increase in hospital costs, which are 3 times higher, and the length of hospital stay is 1 and a half to 2 times. “For this reason, it is necessary to anticipate the prevention of malnutrition in hospitals by carrying out nutritional screening once every 24 hours when patients are admitted as inpatients. In this way, patients who are at risk of experiencing malnutrition will receive appropriate treatment,” explained Prof. Dwi Pudjonarko.

“With this event, it is hoped that there will be collaboration, communication and synergy between clinicians and nutrition experts who deal with malnutrition regarding what is required by health insurance. Apart from that, it is hoped that health insurance will be more able to direct or provide input so that patients get a replacement for the health insurance,” he concluded.

Scientific oration moderated by Ahmad Syauqy, S.Gz., M.P.H., Ph.D. The event was followed by the presentation of material by 2 (two) resource persons. The first resource person is Prof. Dr. dr. Hertanto Wahyu Subagio, M.S., Sp.GK(K) delivered material regarding Malnutrition in Hospitals. The second resource person was dr. Lily Kresnowati, M. Kes (Epid), who provided material regarding BPJS Financing for Malnutrition Cases in Hospitals.
