UNDIP Together with Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation and Padma Care for Environmental Sustainability

Semarang – Central Java (11/10). As part of the 67th Dies Natalis activities, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held various events, including a tree planting initiative in collaboration with the Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation(BLDF) at UNDIP’s campus in Tembalang. This tree planting event involved over 500 UNDIP students, planting 405 tree seedlings around the Muladi Dome building, the UNDIP educational reservoir area, and the Prof Soedarto building area.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., welcomed the tree planting initiative with BLDF. Prof. Suharnomo stated that UNDIP ranked 4th in Asia and 29th in the world in the UI GreenMetric rankings and has consistently maintained 2nd place nationally as the best sustainable university in Indonesia from 2020 to 2023. “A green and comfortable campus makes its residents happy, and happiness is the key to health. Healthy and happy conditions make the campus community love UNDIP even more,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

“Involving students in the tree planting program is expected to inspire them to contribute positively. This aligns with the theme of the 67th Anniversary, namely Strengthening Tri Dharma for a Dignified and Beneficial UNDIP,” Prof. Suharnomo added.

Before the tree planting activity, students were also given training on tree planting and care. “Trees are one of the essential elements for our environment and the sustainability of our lives. Through this tree planting activity, we hope it will serve as the starting point for us to continue caring for the environment together, ensuring it remains a comfortable place for us all to live,” said BLDF Program Director Jemmy Chayadi.

This year, Padma also committed to making a positive impact on the environment. Through Padma Run 2024, which involved 1,200 runners from 74 cities, 5 countries, and 87 running communities on September 15, part of the funds raised from ticket sales for Padma Run Semarang 2024 were donated to support this joint tree planting initiative with UNDIP and BLDF. This initiative is part of Padma Run’s effort to contribute positively to society while supporting environmental sustainability.
