SEMARANG – The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) Semarang 2024 was officially opened at the Muladi Dome, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Tembalang, Semarang, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The opening of GIIAS Semarang 2024 was attended in person by the Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah, Komjen. Pol. (Purn.) Drs. Nana Sudjana A.S., M.M.; the Expert Staff of the Minister for Business Climate and Investment at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), Dr. Ir. Doddy Rahadi, M.T.; the Director of Road Transportation Facilities at the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Amirulloh, S.SiT., M.M.Tr.; GAIKINDO Chairman Yohannes Nangoi; GIIAS Event Chairman Rizwan Alamsjah; and UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.
This GIIAS Semarang 2024 marks the finale of the automotive exhibition series in Indonesia, following events in Bandung, Surabaya, and Tangerang. The exhibition is also part of the largest automotive event in Jawa Tengah, running from October 23-27, 2024.
In an interview, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed pride that UNDIP was chosen as the venue for the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show, or GIIAS Semarang 2024. He also extended gratitude to GAIKINDO and the Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah for this trust.
“I believe that Aiman Adi Witjaksono, S.T., M.Si. (a journalist or Editor-in-Chief of INewsTV) was also impressed by UNDIP’s remarkable new building. Thankfully, people in Jakarta now recognize UNDIP for its high quality and excellent facilities,” said Prof. Suharnomo after touring the car exhibition stands on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The Rector also mentioned that he received much praise from various parties, especially the GIIAS 2024 organizers, who were impressed with the facilities and comfort at the Muladi Dome, which was newly inaugurated in April 2024.
“Mr. Yohannes also said that the exhibition here is the best compared to previous venues. We are very proud, and we hope that GAIKINDO will choose UNDIP again for future exhibitions. Hopefully, the event will also bring a positive market response for Jawa Tengah, and everyone will enjoy it,” expressed Prof. Suharnomo.
UNDIP’s Contribution
The successful hosting of the GIIAS Semarang 2024 exhibition at the Muladi Dome UNDIP from October 23-27, 2024, is mainly due to the supportive facilities and comfort that enhance the automotive exhibition experience.
Dr. Andriyani, S.E., M.M., Head of the UNDIP Business and Risk Analysis Management Agency (BP UBIKAR), thanked the GIIAS 2024 committee for this trust.
According to her, Muladi Dome UNDIP was ideal due to its spacious, comfortable space that suits major events like GIIAS. The Muladi Dome is now five times larger than the previous building and can accommodate 5,000 people in the main hall and 250 in the stands, not including a spacious and comfortable basement parking area.
“Our building is the only one equipped with a car lift, which is essential for automotive exhibitions like GIIAS. This ensures a smooth loading and unloading process for the exhibited vehicles,” said Andriyani, accompanied by Dr. Kartika Widya Utama, S.H., M.H., Deputy Head of UBIKAR.
Kartika Widya added that this trust symbolizes UNDIP’s involvement in the automotive industry, bringing benefits to the community.
“Since the decision to hold this exhibition at UNDIP, we have been coordinating with the Pemprov Jateng and Pemkot Semarang to handle permits from the start of 2024. Fortunately, the event has proceeded smoothly, and we hope that GIIAS will continue here in 2025, 2026, and beyond,” Andriyani stated.
GAIKINDO Chairman Yohannes Nangoi also praised the GIIAS Semarang 2024 held at UNDIP’s Muladi Dome, making this one of Jawa Tengah’s largest automotive exhibitions.
“GIIAS Semarang 2024 is special because it occupies a new 9,000-square-meter venue at the Muladi Dome. We are proud to announce that this exhibition has the highest participation rate among past events, showcasing the automotive industry’s enthusiasm for GIIAS Semarang,” he added.
Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah, Nana Sudjana, also appreciated the growing size of GIIAS Semarang each year. “Thanks and appreciation to GAIKINDO, UNDIP, and all parties involved for their hard work in making this event increasingly successful each year,” said the Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah.
As information, The GIIAS Semarang 2024 features 19 global automotive brands, including 14 passenger vehicle brands: BAIC, BYD, Chery, Citroen, Daihatsu, GAC Aion, Honda, KIA, Mazda, MG, Mitsubishi Motors, Suzuki, Toyota, and Wuling. Toyota Commercial also participates in the commercial vehicle category, and four motorcycle brands—Alva, Exotic, Pasific, and Polytron—are featured as well. Additionally, more than 25 supporting industry brands are participating in the exhibition.
Besides showcasing the latest vehicles, GIIAS Semarang 2024 is supported by Shell Helix as a sponsor, offering various exciting activities throughout the event.
Visitors can see the latest vehicles and technologies from GIIAS Semarang participants by purchasing tickets onsite. Tickets are priced at IDR 20,000 for weekdays (Wednesday-Friday) and IDR 30,000 for weekends (Saturday-Sunday). (***)
