Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again demonstrated its international standing. In recognition of its contributions and capabilities in higher education and research, UNDIP was formally invited by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education for an official academic visit. The delegation, led by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., visited nine institutions—including eight universities and one science technopark—from May 11 to 17, 2025.
Throughout the visit, UNDIP’s delegation was accompanied directly by the Ministry of Education and engaged with several prominent institutions: National Tsing Hua University, National Chung Hsing University, National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Kaohsiung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Asia University, I-Shou University, and the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau under the National Science and Technology Council.
UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo stated that the purpose of the official visit was to strengthen existing academic partnerships between UNDIP and Taiwanese universities, as well as to explore new opportunities for collaboration in research and innovation, particularly in industry-linked initiatives. “We hope this cooperation will not only broaden UNDIP’s international academic network but also accelerate research and innovation downstream that directly benefits society and industry,” he said. “This aligns with our commitment to making UNDIP a university that is dignified and impactful.”
The Ministry of Education of Taiwan facilitated the delegation throughout the trip and witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding. This full support was warmly acknowledged by UNDIP’s Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Collaboration, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D., who reiterated UNDIP’s commitment to enhancing synergy in academic and research collaboration. “We greatly appreciate the full support from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education in facilitating this visit. It marks an important milestone in strengthening cross-border research and innovation partnerships,” Wijayanto said.
UNDIP has long maintained academic cooperation with Taiwan, regularly sending students for summer courses and assigning lecturers to speak at seminars and academic forums in Taiwan. According to the Ministry of Education, Indonesian students rank second among the largest groups of international students in Taiwan.
Director of Innovation, Downstreaming, and Collaboration at UNDIP, drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D., expressed hope that the visit would foster greater collaboration between UNDIP and Taiwanese researchers—especially in tech incubation, innovation, and academia-industry linkage aimed at commercializing research outcomes.
She stated that the visit revealed promising collaboration opportunities in areas that UNDIP researchers are already pursuing, as well as areas that Taiwanese researchers are also exploring, paving the way for more industrial applications.

Key areas of potential joint research and innovation include semiconductors, medical devices, smart and sustainable agriculture, artificial intelligence, marine science and management, Mandarin and English language programs, and social sciences, such as banking and finance.
This official visit affirms UNDIP’s continued commitment to building meaningful international partnerships. It is a step in realizing the university’s mission of “UNDIP, Noble and Valuable”—a university that upholds academic integrity while delivering tangible contributions to the nation and the world.
