UNDIP and Djarum Foundation Inaugurate the Prestigious Polytron Stadium

UNDIP, Semarang (June 2, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), in collaboration with the Djarum Foundation, Polytron, and iForte, officially inaugurated the international-standard Polytron Stadium on Monday, June 2, 2025. Located in Tembalang, Semarang, Central Java, this world-class badminton sports complex is a tangible effort to inspire students to engage in badminton and pursue excellence at national and international levels.

Victor Rachmat Hartono, President Director of the Djarum Foundation, stated that the construction of Polytron Stadium is part of the foundation’s broader mission to establish a robust badminton ecosystem in Indonesia. More than just a physical structure, the stadium symbolizes a renewed commitment to restoring Indonesia’s badminton legacy through academic environments that foster world-class athletes on campus.

“We believe badminton is not only a proud cultural heritage but also a field of achievement that must continue to thrive. Djarum Foundation remains committed to upholding badminton as Indonesia’s pride and a favorite among the younger generation. Polytron Stadium is not just a facility—it’s a breeding ground for future champions. We hope this venue will produce student-athletes who one day proudly raise the red-and-white flag on the global stage,” Victor said during the inauguration.

Polytron Stadium features five badminton courts, seating for 300 spectators, accessible restrooms, an athlete lounge, office space, and a merchandise room. Its international-grade status is supported by court dimensions of 13.4 x 6.10 meters and professional-grade flooring that includes a 100% PVC wear layer, a grid stabilizing layer, a fiberglass layer, a decompression layer, and a foam layer from Flypower.

The stadium’s design includes a striking giant shuttlecock installation at the entrance, symbolizing speed, perseverance, and dedication—welcoming every athlete who comes to train or compete.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed deep appreciation for the development of the facility. He hopes the Polytron Stadium will ignite a spirit of healthy competition and determination among students, particularly those at UNDIP, as these traits are key to future success.

“We are grateful to the Djarum Foundation, Polytron, and iForte for enhancing our campus facilities with the construction of Polytron Stadium. We believe this stadium will be more than a training venue—it will become a hub of activity, inspiration, and motivation for students to pursue sports, strive for achievement, and develop character through athletics. We hope more students will be encouraged to engage in sports and aim for excellence,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

“We also hope this partnership between Universitas Diponegoro and the Djarum Foundation continues to grow so that UNDIP can keep contributing to achievements on both national and international stages,” he added.

Polytron CEO Hariyono emphasized that the stadium was built with a philosophy that goes beyond a traditional sports facility. “With the construction of Polytron Stadium, we aim to reignite the spirit of badminton from the heart of the academic world—connecting educational aspirations with the determination to excel in national and international arenas,” he said.

“Polytron Stadium represents our collective passion and vision. It is a new home for Indonesian badminton. We built this not just as a facility but as a space where a strong sports culture can thrive—for UNDIP students, PB Djarum partner clubs, and the wider community,” Hariyono added.

Ferdinandus Aming Santoso, President Director & CEO of iForte & Protelindo Group, believes the stadium will become a valuable platform for students to expand their networks through badminton. “Beyond being a place to showcase skills, we hope Polytron Stadium becomes a hub for building broader networks among members of the academic community,” he said.

The inauguration was attended by several badminton legends, including Liliyana Natsir, Tontowi Ahmad, Sigit Budiarto, Hendrawan, Aryono Miranat, Hastomo Arbi, Lius Pongoh, Fung Permadi, and Richard Mainaky. The ceremony included a plaque signing, the first ceremonial serve, an exhibition match between the PB Djarum legends and UNDIP Rector, and a coaching clinic with UNDIP’s badminton student organization and PB Djarum partner clubs.
