ADVANCING TOWARD A WORLD-CLASS UNIVERSITY, UNDIPCONNECTS NETWORK WITH WANWAY TECH TO DEVELOPSMART TRANSPORTATION

Shanghai, China – In its continuous effort to become a WorldClass University, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) carried out a strategic visit to China from April 28 to 30, 2025. This international mission aims to strengthen global partnerships in the fields of education, research, and technological innovation. The visit covered three major cities—Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin—where UNDIP met with leading universities and technology companies.

The UNDIP delegation was led by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., accompanied by Prof. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Also part of the delegation were Wijayanto, Ph.D. (Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, Collaboration and Public Communication), Prof. Ir. Agus Indarjo, M.Phil. (Secretary of the Board of Trustees), Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H. (Deputy Director of Global Partnerships and Connectivity), and Abdul Rohman, S.Hum. (Manager of Reputation, Partnership, and Global Connectivity).

One of the highlights of the visit took place in Shanghai on April 27, when the UNDIP delegation visited WanWay Tech (Shanghai Wanway Digital Technology Co. Ltd.), a leading tech company specializing in smart transportation systems and digital software solutions. The delegation was warmly received by Justin Lee, a company representative, who introduced UNDIP to WanWay’s innovation center and technological showcases.

Among the featured products was the company’s flagship EBike, an electric bicycle developed in partnership with Wuhan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The E-Bike is part of WanWay’s broader vision for smart mobility in urban settings.

During the discussion session, UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo expressed keen interest in collaborating with WanWay Tech on smart transportation and digital transformation initiatives, particularly in the context of Indonesia’s growing need for sustainable mobility solutions.

In addition to joint research, the partnership will also focus on human resource development, including staff exchange, joint seminars, and student internship programs. These initiatives are designed to produce global-ready talent and strengthen UNDIP’s academic ecosystem through exposure to advanced industrial practices.

Prof. Mohamad Nasir added that the visit was not merely symbolic but a strategic step in building UNDIP’s international reputation through long-term, impact-driven collaborations with global institutions. “This kind of partnership is essential for preparing UNDIP graduates with global competencies and for positioning our university as a regional leader in education and innovation,” he stated.

The strategic mission to China marks UNDIP’s proactive role in the internationalization of higher education, particularly by integrating academic excellence, global networking, and technological advancement. Future collaboration plans include dual-degree programs, joint publications, and realworld implementation of smart technologies within Indonesian campuses and cities.

This visit underscores UNDIP’s firm commitment to global engagement, aligning with Indonesia’s broader vision of producing high-quality human capital and promoting technological sovereignty through international partnerships.
