UNDIP Aims to Make Education a “New Gold” for Indonesia

UNDIP, Semarang (July 8, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), in collaboration with the Semarang Immigration Office Class I, has launched the Campus Immigration Point at UNDIP, headquartered at the Muladi Dome. This service offers easier access for both Indonesian and foreign nationals engaged in academic activities at UNDIP, as well as for the general public seeking immigration document assistance.

UNDIP continues to strengthen its commitment to the internationalization of higher education and expand access to public services rooted in integrity and innovation—particularly for cross-border academic mobility—through strategic partnerships with government institutions like the Semarang Immigration Office Class I.

The signing of the Cooperation Agreement took place on Monday, July 7, 2025, in the Rector’s Meeting Room on the second floor of the Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.

The Campus Immigration Point at UNDIP will operate on campus at Muladi Dome, first floor (Exhibition Plaza Blocks O and M). It will be equipped with the necessary infrastructure to issue passports and immigration stay permits and provide immigration education.

In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for this joint initiative. “This collaboration is a tangible example of synergy between higher education and government institutions in delivering inclusive, fast, and high-quality public services, especially to support global academic mobility,” he said.

“Each year, hundreds of UNDIP students take part in double degree programs, allowing them to study abroad for a year with our partner universities. We want to ensure they receive proper assistance in managing their travel documents in an orderly and compliant manner,” he added.

Prof. Suharnomo expressed hope that this partnership would mark the beginning of a broader vision of making education a strategic national asset. “We hope this initiative becomes a seed—proving that education can be the ‘new gold’ and a source of foreign exchange for Indonesia’s future. We believe the quality of our education will continue to rise,” he said with optimism.

Echoing this sentiment, Is Edy Ekoputranto, S.H., M.M., Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for Jawa Tengah, welcomed the strategic collaboration. He noted that the partnership would enhance immigration services and oversight, especially amid increasingly dynamic academic mobility.

“Appointing UNDIP as one of Indonesia’s top universities for this initiative is the right move. We fully support it and are proud that the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, personally named this unit Campus Immigration Point at UNDIP as a gesture of appreciation for UNDIP’s achievements,” he said.

Is Edy added that the collaboration is part of efforts to improve immigration services, supervision, and law enforcement in the Semarang region. “It reflects our growing enthusiasm to provide better services, particularly in enhancing immigration oversight and enforcement,” he stated.

He also stressed the importance of bringing immigration services closer to campuses to support global academic mobility and the university’s reputation. “We hope this service improves access for both Indonesian citizens and foreign nationals at UNDIP and serves as a model for adaptive, collaborative immigration services,” he said.

The event concluded with a group photo featuring other attending officials, including UNDIP Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., and Prabandono Hadiwidjojo, A.Md.Im., S.H., Head of the Travel Document and Stay Permit Division at the Semarang Immigration Office, who also witnessed the signing ceremony.

The Campus Immigration Point at the UNDIP office is scheduled to begin operations later this year on the first floor of the Muladi Dome. Immigration officers will serve UNDIP’s academic community and the general public Monday through Friday during official immigration office hours.

Through this collaboration, UNDIP aims to deliver improved services for its academic community in processing immigration documents while strengthening its position as a world-class university with an inclusive and collaborative international network.
