RSND, Semarang (September 27, 2025) – Diponegoro National Hospital (Rumah Sakit Nasional Diponegoro / RSND), in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), held a guest lecture titled “Guest Lecture and Live Surgery on Brain Tumor” on September 27–28, 2025, at RSND and UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine. The lecture was part of the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine.
Two neurosurgery experts from Kagoshima University, Japan—Singo Fujio, MD, Ph.D., and Hitoshi Yamahata, Ph.D.—were invited as keynote speakers. They delivered lectures on the latest advancements in brain tumor treatment and conducted a live surgery demonstration as a real-time learning experience.
Several UNDIP and external experts also contributed to the program, presenting on transnasal endoscopic brain tumor surgery techniques. Speakers included:

The program aimed to enrich academic knowledge, improve the competencies of medical professionals, and strengthen collaboration across disciplines in education, research, and specialized healthcare in neurosurgery and ENT.
Participants, ranging from students and medical interns to practitioners, gained valuable experience in understanding complex neurosurgical cases. The transnasal endoscopic technique, considered one of the most effective methods, offers high success rates and shorter recovery times of just two to three days. With the assistance of neuro-navigation inserted through the nasal cavity, the procedure is safer and poses fewer risks of brain damage.
RSND Director dr. Agus Setiyo Hadipurwanto, M.Kes., stated that the live surgery was not only a clinical learning opportunity but also a testament to RSND’s commitment to advancing healthcare services in Jawa Tengah, while strengthening its role as a teaching hospital. “We want to provide the best experience for students, medical professionals, and the wider community in Jawa Tengah in understanding current challenges and solutions in medicine,” dr. Agus said.
Prof. dr. M. Thohar Arifin, Ph.D., Sp.BS(K), Professor of Neuroanatomy at UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that the initiative reflects the faculty’s commitment to innovative, research-based education focused on community health. “We hope this event provides tangible benefits for developing participants while reinforcing UNDIP in medicine, particularly neurosurgery,” he said.
dr. Yuriz Bakhtiar, Sp.BS(K), Ph.D., Head of the Neurosurgery Specialist Program at UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine, added, “Through this activity, RSND and the Faculty of Medicine reaffirm their commitment to providing high-quality, research-based medical education relevant to global health challenges, especially in neurosurgery.” (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Oktora & Ut)
