UNDIP, Demak (September 30, 2025) – Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., attended the launching ceremony of PKK SIGAB (PKK Ready and Responsive to Disasters) held at SD Negeri 1 Banjarsari, Sayung District, Demak Regency, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. The PKK SIGAB initiative supports the Jawa Tengah Governor’s priority program on disaster management and environmental sustainability by strengthening family capacity in mitigation, adaptation, and response to natural and non-natural disasters, as well as addressing the impacts of climate change.
The PKK SIGAB program was established in response to Indonesia’s high vulnerability to disasters, including floods, landslides, earthquakes, and fires. Through PKK SIGAB, communities receive training on basic disaster preparedness, risk mitigation, and self-rescue procedures during emergencies.
The event was attended by the Governor of Jawa Tengah Regency, Ahmad Luthfi, accompanied by Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen and Chairperson of the Jawa Tengah’s Family Welfare Empowerment Team (TP PKK), Nawal Arafah. On this occasion, the Governor also inaugurated a desalination machine for the residents of Banjarsari Village, Demak Regency — an innovative product developed by Universitas Diponegoro. The desalination facility provides clean and drinkable water to a region that has long struggled with water scarcity. Management of the desalination unit has been entrusted to the “Banjarsari Bergerak” Drinking Water and Sanitation Facilities Management Group (KPSPAMS).
Governor Ahmad Luthfi explained that the Banjarsari desalination unit is one of four locations jointly developed by the Jawa Tengah Provincial Government and Universitas Diponegoro. “In addition to Demak, three other sites have been prepared in the regencies of Brebes, Pekalongan, and Pati,” he said.
Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. stated that, under the tagline “Noble and Valuable UNDIP,” the university is committed to providing solutions to real-world problems faced by communities. “A university should not be an ivory tower built solely on academic achievements. Beyond that, it must be ready to engage directly with society to address challenges and deliver meaningful benefits for people and the environment,” said the Rector.
UNDIP’s active role in addressing water issues and supporting the PKK SIGAB initiative contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) — promoting gender equality and empowering women — and Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) — ensuring the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.
These efforts demonstrate UNDIP’s commitment to supporting the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” program through continuous improvement in higher education, science, and technology quality. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ut)
