UNDIP, Semarang (13/7) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held the Purna Adi Cendekia Ceremony at the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. Building, Tembalang Campus. The event represents the university’s highest form of recognition, honoring five of its most distinguished professors who have officially retired. Attended by the Rector, Academic Senate, and university leadership, the solemn ceremony served as a tribute to the professors’ decades of dedication, scholarly contributions, and unwavering service to the advancement of higher education in Indonesia.
The five professors honored during the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Ir. Luthfi Djauhari, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat, S.H., M.S.; Prof. Ir. Dwi Sunarti, M.S., Ph.D.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Edjeng Suprijatna, M.P.; and a posthumous award to the late Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Rejeki, M.Sc.
The Open Senate Session was chaired by Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the Academic Senate of Universitas Diponegoro. In her opening remarks, Prof. Tri Winarni emphasized that the ceremony serves as an institutional tribute to the scholarly masterpieces and lifelong achievements of the honored professors. “The Purna Adi Cendekia Ceremony is the highest honorary forum of the Academic Senate to celebrate the impeccable legacy of service rendered by our academic pillars,” she stated.
In his remarks, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., described the occasion not as a farewell but as a lasting monument to intellectual dedication.
“Today’s Open Session of the Academic Senate through the Purna Adi Cendekia Ceremony is not a farewell, but a lasting monument to intellectual service. Universitas Diponegoro stands proudly today because of the scientific foundations, academic perseverance, and integrity woven by our distinguished professors over more than four decades. We once again extend our deepest gratitude to our retired professors. Old professors never die, they just fade away. I believe there is truly no retirement; the spirit of service continues,” he remarked.
The first scholarly address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Luthfi Djauhari, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, entitled “Forty Years of Service: Serving the Nation, Innovating for Sustainable Poultry Farming.” He reflected on his research journey since 1990, focusing on protein and vitamin metabolism in poultry and on the utilization of local agro-industrial by-products as functional feed ingredients to reduce national production costs. Prof. Luthfi emphasized that the future of livestock research should be rooted in adaptive precision farming approaches that respond to global climate change.
“Years of mentoring students have convinced me that beneficial knowledge is a continuous charity whose rewards never cease. I now entrust this mission to the younger generation of researchers,” he said.
The ceremony continued with Prof. Dr. Arief Hidayat, S.H., M.S. from the Faculty of Law, who delivered a profound national address titled “The Pancasila Rule of Law and Theistic Constitutionalism Toward Golden Indonesia 2045.” The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia stressed that Indonesian law must not be confined to rigid formal legalism but should remain grounded in divine values and social justice rooted in the cultural foundations of Pancasila.
“The term of office of a constitutional judge and formal duties as a lecturer may come to an end, but the journey of upholding the Constitution never knows retirement,” he affirmed.
Next, Prof. Ir. Dwi Sunarti, M.S., Ph.D., also from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, delivered a humanistic address entitled “Exploring the Quiet Path: Poultry Welfare and Behavior.” Her work highlighted the importance of understanding poultry psychology and natural behaviors, such as dust bathing and perching, to minimize animal stress before consumption. Concluding her long academic journey, she shared a heartfelt farewell message.
“Thank you for the extraordinary fellowship during my 45 years and three months on this campus. Coffee may grow cold, but our togetherness must remain warm; retirement may come, but our bonds must endure forever,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edjeng Suprijatna, M.P. presented his address titled “Weaving National Protein Independence: Four Decades of Research Dedication to Indonesia’s Tropical Poultry.” He reflected on 43 years of research covering poultry protein absorption efficiency, the utilization of phytoestrogens derived from fermented soy sauce by-products, and patented innovations involving phytobiotic combinations as natural growth promoters in poultry intestines. In an emotional closing statement, he expressed gratitude to his family and colleagues.
“Every journal draft I wrote at my desk was a love letter to Indonesia’s poultry sector. Formally, I bid farewell, but my spirit will always remain among the scent of feed and the fluttering wings of our nation’s poultry,” he said.
The university also paid its highest respects through a posthumous award to the late Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Rejeki, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. UNDIP honored her enduring academic legacy, international publications, and extraordinary dedication to advancing fisheries and marine sciences at the university. The presence of her family on stage to receive the award certificate became one of the most solemn and moving moments of the ceremony for colleagues and members of the academic community.
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic presentation of appreciation certificates by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., followed by a collective prayer and a warm documentation session attended by university leaders, colleagues, and family members. The Purna Adi Cendekia Ceremony reaffirmed the enduring truth that the service of a true academic transcends the boundaries of time.
