UNDIP, Semarang (November 21, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has achieved an impressive milestone in its debut participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. In this global assessment, UNDIP ranked 144th worldwide and 8th nationally, underscoring its standing as a world-class research university.

The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the hard work of the entire academic community. According to him, “THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings” reflect the strength of interdisciplinary research at UNDIP through various indicators, including the volume of scientific publications, citation quality and impact, global collaboration, research income, and international reputation. “Alhamdulillahi rabbil ‘alamin, UNDIP’s placement at 144th globally demonstrates that the collaborative research ecosystem established by the university has been running consistently and effectively. This achievement is the result of the dedication, collaboration, and commitment of all university members in strengthening relevant and impactful interdisciplinary research,” he added.

The Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Collaboration, and Public Communication, Widjayanto, Ph.D., emphasized that this accomplishment is proof of UNDIP’s strengthened, measurable, and sustainable research ecosystem.

“This ranking shows that UNDIP’s interdisciplinary research is increasingly recognized internationally. We continue encouraging researchers to produce innovations based on cross-disciplinary collaboration that are not only academically excellent but also provide real benefits to society and industry,” he said.

The Director of the Directorate of Reputation, Partnership, and Global Connectivity at UNDIP, Prof. Hadiyanto, extended his highest appreciation to the entire academic community and partners who supported this achievement. This strategic accomplishment is expected to solidify further UNDIP’s position in advancing interdisciplinary science and strengthening Indonesia’s contribution to the global higher education landscape.

“May UNDIP continue to attain even higher achievements and deliver meaningful benefits for society, the nation, and the world,” he added.

The Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR), developed in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, represent the world’s first initiative to measure universities’ contributions and commitments to advancing interdisciplinary science. Interdisciplinary scientific research offers immense potential by integrating insights from multiple fields to address global challenges.

ISR uses three main methodological pillars, each representing stages in the life cycle of a research project: input, process, and output. Each pillar includes several metrics that assess different aspects of these stages.

With this achievement, Universitas Diponegoro further reinforces its commitment to being a leading institution in research, innovation, and community service. UNDIP will continue strengthening collaborations, improving the quality of international publications, and producing scientific works that bring real impact to national development. Through the collective spirit of the entire academic community, UNDIP is determined to take greater strides in realizing high-quality, globally competitive higher education. (Public Communication / UNDIP / Nurul)
