SEMARANG- Graduates of Faculty of Public Health of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) have qualifications that do not need to be doubted. The reason is that they are quickly absorbed by the job market, even those who have not graduated have been accepted for work. To be sure, most of the students have worked before graduation.
The Dean of Faculty of Public Health Undip, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM, M.Kes, said that the average waiting period for Faculty of Public Health Undip’s graduates to get a job is no more than six months. This means that before six months after graduation they are already working. “Even many students who have not graduated are ordered to work,” he explained, on Tuesday (24/8/2021).
According to Budiyono, the period for getting a job from 503 alumni who filled out the tracer study, it was recorded that more than 11% got a job before graduating, 35% of alumni got a job for less than six months. Tracer study itself is a graduate tracking activity carried out to alumni two years after graduation.
He added that usually they look for job shortly after graduation and what alumni do most in looking for job is two months after graduation. An alumni of Faculty of Public Health Undip was interviewed on average by four agencies from the six agencies that responded.
“As many as more than 44% of our graduates work in government agencies and state-owned enterprises. While the rest work in private companies, industry and not a few are entrepreneurs. Since 1987 until now, the number of alumni from Faculty of Public Health Undip is approximately 7,447 people,” he revealed. According to him, the reason why they are easily absorbed by the job market is because Faculty of Public Health Undip produces professional graduates at the National and International levels.
This is in accordance with vision of Faculty of Public Health Undip, namely to provide problem-based public health education (problem base learning), so as to produce professional graduates at the National and International levels. This faculty also strives to be a higher education institution in the field of public health that excels at the National and International levels by 2025.
On the one hand, Bachelor of Public Health has the required and broad job prospects. Among them are epidemiologists, where currently there are not enough Indonesian epidemiologists. Graduates of Faculty of Public Health Undip can also become supervisors and experts on Occupational Safety and Health. Occupational Safety and Health supervisors are needed by the industrial, construction, manufacturing and oil and gas sectors. Graduates of Faculty of Public Health Undip can also become health educators, the Aids Prevention Commission, health counselors, and many more.
Based on the assessment of the Accreditation Board by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 033/BAN-PT/Ak-X/S1/I/2008, it was determined that Faculty of Public Health Undip was awarded the A accreditation title.
Faculty of Public Health Undip has Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral Study Programs. Public Health Undergraduate Study Program has nine specializations, namely Health Administration and Policy, Biostatistics and Population Science, Epidemiology and Tropical Diseases, Entomology, Public Health Nutrition, Maternal and Child Health, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Health Education and Behavioral Sciences. Public Health Undergraduate Study Program has A accreditation.
Public Health Postgraduate Program has concentrations on Health Administration and Policy, Hospital Administration, Health Management Information System, and Maternal and Child Health.
Environmental Health Postgraduate Program has concentrations on Environmental Health, Industrial Environmental Health, Environmental Health Management and Environmental Health Education.
Health Promotion Postgraduate Program has concentrations on Health Promotion, Human Resources Development for Health, Reproductive Health & HIV/AIDS and Promotion of Occupational Health and Safety.
For three Masters Study Programs, Faculty of Public Health Undip has received Excellent and Very Good status from Association of Independent Accreditation Institutes for Higher Education in Health Indonesia (LAM-PTKes) or Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (IAAHEH).
The Master Program in Public Health received an Excellent accreditation, while Master Program in Environmental Health and Masters in Health Promotion each received an A accreditation status, which means Very Good/Excellent.
Faculty of Public Health Undip has opened Doctoral Program in Public Health Sciences according to Operating Permit: 69/E.E2/DT/2014 (Mandate letter from the Directorate General of Higher Education), Equality in the Equivalent Level to Indonesian National Qualification Framework. Faculty of Public Health Undip has a mission to provide problem-based public health education (problem base learning), so as to produce professional graduates at the national and international levels.
The Doctoral Program in Public Health Sciences Undip organizes the management of higher education institutions based on the principles of good governance and accountability. It also oganizes the development of science and technology in the field of public health through research and service that refers to the Undip Scientific Development Master Pattern as the creation of a research university.
