Semarang – Central Java (21/11). Rector of Diponegoro University (Undip), Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum. officially deployed the Undip Contingent Team who are members of the Central Java Contingent at the XVII National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) 2022 on Friday (18/11) in the Rector Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, Undip Tembalang Campus.
Starting his remarks, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H, M.Hum. expressed his appreciation to the athletes, coaches, and team officials who will be heading to the XVII POMNAS 2022. “I thank and appreciate the athletes, coaches and officials who devoted their time and energy to achieve achievements. This achievement is one of the ways to maintain Undip’s great name.” he said.
In addition, the achievements will be a matter of pride for the entire academic community and Undip alumni. “This is proof that Undip in every ranking is always included in the ranks of well-known universities in Indonesia. Of course this will make Undip alumni proud of your achievements.” explained Prof. Yos.
Prof. Yos advised every student athlete who will compete in the XVII POMNAS 2022 to uphold the spirit of chivalry and honesty. “Winning or losing is a later matter, but one thing that is important from all these activities is how to cultivate a knight’s spirit and an honest spirit in competing.” he said.
“I always emphasize this to everyone when pursuing rankings at Undip, that honesty is above all. I don’t want to wear a fake crown.” added Prof. Yos.
Furthermore, Prof. Yos added that the safety and health of student athletes also needed attention. “Hopefully the contingent team members will always be safe and healthy there, and can go home with achievements.” he concluded.
Drs. Handojo Djoko Waloejo, M.Si. as Person In Charge (PIC) XVII POMNAS 2022 contingent of Undip, in his report said that XVII POMNAS 2022 is a multi-event sports university level nationally which is held every 2 years in odd years and is a representation and result of fostering student sports achievements.
“The XVIIth POMNAS should be held in 2021, but since it coincides with the 20th Papua National Sports Week (PON), the XVII POMNAS will be held in 2022.” explained Handojo.
Handojo added that the XVII POMNAS 2022 will be held on November 17-26, 2022 at the Padang State University (UNP) Padang City, West Sumatra. “On this occasion, Undip sent its student athletes for 3 sports, with 13 athletes participating in Karate, 1 athlete participating in Taekwondo, and 1 athlete participating in Bullet Rejection Athletics.” he said.
According to Handojo, the athletes who departed for the XVII POMNAS 2022 were the best athletes who had passed the selection at the POMPROV Central Java which was held on September 1-9, 2022 ago.
“We are ready to participate in the XVII POMNAS 2022 and are ready to compete in a sporty and chivalrous manner. Hopefully Diponegoro University athletes can bring home medals and achievements.” concluded Handojo.
