Diponegoro University Student Choir (PSM Undip), also known as the Diponegoro University Choir (DUC), is one of the Diponegoro University Student Activity Units (UKM), which was established on October 15, 1972. As one of the oldest UKMs at Diponegoro University, the members are Undip students from various faculties and departments. PSM Undip is a place for students who love art, especially vocal art. PSM Undip has a vision and mission to develop student’s abilities in the arts and organizations.
More than that, PSM Undip is also determined to introduce Indonesia and Diponegoro University and maintain its existence as a choir. PSM Undip actively participates in regional, national, and international competitions. Through this competition, PSM Undip tries to maintain quality and test the extent of the process that has been undertaken. Through each round, PSM Undip is committed to improving quality to remain the best choir that makes Indonesia and its alma mater proud.
In 2023, PSM Undip took part in a competition at the international level, namely the Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC), which was held in Taipei, Taiwan. TICC is a choir competition held in Taipei by the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation. This competition is one of the prestigious competitions in the choir field, which was attended by more than 50 choirs from various countries with the best judges from all over the world who have been curated and have a reputation in their field.
Before participating in the competition held in Taipei, PSM Undip held a concert entitled “True Colors,” which was held in Semarang on July 15, 2023. In preparation for the TICC competition, they have been practicing regularly from March until July. Not only singing but they also prepare themselves physically by walking and exercising together.
In this TICC competition, PSM Undip participated in four categories, namely Mixed, Musica Sacra, Contemporary Music, and Ethnic/Traditional Music, with a total of 12 songs. On July 31, the PSM Undip contingent was released to Taipei, attended by several ranks of the rectorate leadership, one of which was Prof. Faisal, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., as Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs.
In the TICC competition held on August 2-4, 2023, PSM Undip was successfully selected as one of the teams that could appear in the Grand Prix (final round) and succeeded in becoming the First Runner Up of the 2023 TICC Grand Prix. PSM Undip received awards in all categories: the Gold Award Mixed Category and Winner of Mixed Category, Gold Award Contemporary Song Category, Gold Award Ethnic/Traditional Song Category, and Gold Award Musica Sacra Category. This success is inseparable from the support of Diponegoro University and those closest to the members.
