The Engineering Professional Program Study Program (PSPPI) of the Faculty of Engineering Undip held the engineer’s oath-taking event for the ninth time. The oath-taking ceremony took place hybrid at the Engineering Hall, on Wednesday, 9/8/2023, at the Dean’s Building, floor 5. At this event, the Vice Rector of Resources Undip, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., and the Secretary General of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Ir. In this period, PSPPI of the Faculty of Engineering Undip succeeded in inaugurating 193 new engineers from various regions to be ready to serve Indonesia. The Chairperson of PSPPI of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Prof. Dr. Ir. Widayat, S.T., M.T., IPM, ASEAN Eng said PSPPI Undip implemented two classes for this period, namely the Regular class and the Past Learning Recognition (RPL) class. These two classes aim to facilitate engineers with work experience that has yet to reach the standard so they can produce the same sound quality as those with a lot of experience when they graduate later. “This period, we carry out two classes. Regular class is intended for those with minimal experience, so we include as many as 18 engineers. Then the rest is the Past Learning Recognition class which is taken in one semester,” said Prof. Widayat.
He also added that PSPPI of the Faculty of Engineering Undip is currently improving the quality of its teaching by preparing itself to obtain Superior accreditation. “We ask for blessings and assistance from engineers who graduated from PSPPI Faculty of Engineering Undip so that in the future accreditation can lead to Superior accreditation,” he said.
Secretary General of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Ir. Bambang Goeritno, M.Sc, MPA, IPU, APEC Engineer, in his remarks, said that engineering professional programs such as the PSPPI Faculty of Engineering Undip are things that must be held because they are related to a moral commitment to show professionalism when working in the field. For him, technical competence alone is not enough to show professionalism. “Above a person’s technical competence, there is a professional. People can have high competence but are not necessarily professional. However, a professional person requires high competence,” he said.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. hopes that in the future, PSPPI Faculty of Engineering Undip can work together with engineering professional programs from other countries so that they can improve their quality and be able to compete with global demands. “We also need to cooperate with engineering professional programs abroad to implement a credit transfer system later. Those are all the keys to improving our human resources. Since we are competing with Vietnam, we must be able to beat Thailand because our infrastructure spending is quite large,” he said.
Several Faculty of Engineering Undip academics were appointed engineers during this period. Some are the Administrative Manager of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Ir. Ari Eko Widyantoro, S.T., M.T., IPM, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Ir. The achievement shows how the Faculty of Engineering Undip is committed to supporting the improvement of the competence of its academic community so that it can provide better service and be a model for other students. “This proves how we also encourage our staff to keep learning. Because lifelong learning is one of the things, we encourage at the Faculty of Engineering. Since for us, H.R. is the key,” said Prof. Agung.
