The Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, organized the International Seminar on Maritime Delimitation: Recent Development and Relevant Factors on Tuesday (29/8) at the Padma Hotel in Semarang. Representing the Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Retno Saraswati, S.H., M.Hum., inaugurated the seminar.
Prof. Retno emphasized that Indonesia possesses maritime wealth that needs to be nurtured. Indonesia boasts extraordinary natural resources, particularly in the marine sector.
“The territorial elements within a country are important as the basis for exercising sovereignty, allowing us to economically utilize our country’s natural wealth and resources,” she explained.
Syahda Guruh Langkah Samudera, Director of Law and Economic Agreements at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was one of the speakers. He stated that determining maritime boundaries is crucial. If maritime boundaries are agreed upon and known by each citizen, their utilization can be more optimal.
“The determination of maritime boundaries has a positive impact in avoiding inter-country issues. With well-defined boundaries, there will be better utilization, and there won’t be instances of fishermen encroaching into the waters of other countries, making it very significant,” he expressed.
