PPKS Task Force Socializes UNDIP to Be Safe from Sexual Violence

Semarang – The Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) organized a crucial Declaration and Socialization event for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence at the Engineering Hall, 5th Floor of the Dean Building of the Faculty of Engineering on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The event was attended by the Rector of UNDIP, Vice Rector, Deans of Faculties/Schools, Director of Academic Student Affairs and Alumni, Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Bureau, Head of the Communication and Business Bureau, Chairwoman of Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UNDIP, UNDIP Legal Office, Managers within UNDIP, representatives of UNDIP Student Executive Board and Senate, and Denok Kenang of Semarang City.

The UNDIP Rector officially opened the socialization. The theme of this socialization was “Synergy between Faculties & University in UNDIP’s Role to Ensure Safety from Sexual Violence.” The goal of this socialization was to provide an understanding of sexual violence, the victims, the perpetrators, and the factors influencing sexual violence, as well as UNDIP’s role in the prevention and handling of sexual violence.

Additionally, the socialization discussed forms of sexual violence prevention, handling by Satgas PPKS, reporting of sexual violence cases within UNDIP, and open recruitment for Satgas PPKS UNDIP. The reading and signing of the Declaration on the Prevention of Bullying, Sexual Violence, and Intolerance within UNDIP was carried out as a form of UNDIP’s commitment to handling and preventing cases of bullying, sexual violence, and intolerance within the campus environment. The declaration was signed by the Rector of UNDIP, Vice Rector, Chairperson of Satgas PPKS UNDIP, and all Deans of Faculties and Schools within UNDIP.

In his remarks, the Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed that humanistic dynamics constantly evolve. Moral values also develop and change. Therefore, he conveyed that in Indonesia, we should adhere to the values in Pancasila, which primarily originate from the customs, culture, nation, and religion as a moral framework. “The values we uphold are Pancasila. No debate,” he said.

Although there are different values between humanism, Pancasila, and religion, he believes that all certainly reject sexual violence. “We are committed to preventing sexual violence on campus and hope to spread this message to the entire community,” he added.

Dr. Hastaning Sakti, M.Kes., Psikolog, Chairperson of Satgas PPKS UNDIP, in her report, expressed her concern about the misuse of information technology by immoral individuals. The increasingly loose social norms regarding morality, dignity, and ethics, along with the misuse of information technology, can lead to unrestricted sexual activities, sexual violence, and bullying in various circles. “That is our concern as a higher education institution that upholds the nation’s dignity,” he stated in his report.

She hopes that this event can spark positive solutions so that UNDIP can be a model for other universities and within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in efforts towards a campus free of sexual violence. The event then continued with a presentation and a question-and-answer session with the Chairperson of Satgas PPKS UNDIP, Dr. Hastaning Sakti, M.Kes., Psikolog. (Sahila-Public Relations)
