4 UNDIP Lecturers Win Top BRIN Collaborator 2024

SEMARANG – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) was awarded as a Top 6 collaborator of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) with 312 scholarly outputs (BRIN Joint Publications 2021-2024) in two main subject areas: Environmental Science and Agricultural and Biological Sciences. Additionally, BRIN and UNDIP have collaborated extensively in achieving SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 14: Life Below Water.

At the same event, four UNDIP lecturers received awards as Top BRIN Collaborators 2024, presented directly by the Head of BRIN, Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko, M.Sc., at the UNDIP Conference Hall, 5th floor of the ICT Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, Semarang, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, during the event “Award Presentation, Public Lecture, and Talkshow by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Diponegoro University.”

The awards were based on the highest number of joint publications with BRIN (Top Co-authors from UNDIP with BRIN). The first award went to Dr. Tuswan, S.T., a lecturer from the Department of Naval Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, with 23 joint publications. The second went to Prof. Dr. Hadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering, with 19 joint publications. The third went to Nuruliarizki Shinta Pandupuspitasari, S.Pt., M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, with 16 joint publications. The fourth went to Faheem Ahmad Khan, Ph.D., an international research staff member at SCCR Indonesia, with 16 joint publications.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his gratitude for this recognition in an interview. “We are very grateful to BRIN, and Alhamdulillah, UNDIP has consistently been one of the Top BRIN Collaborators,” the Rector said.

Regarding the award, the Rector emphasized that rankings are not the main objective, but the outcomes of research should benefit both the industry and society. “Rankings like the top 500 in the world or any other are merely final results or bonuses. Our main focus is the development of knowledge itself and its usefulness to the industry and society,” stated the Rector.

The Rector also appreciated the event, noting that it brought awareness to UNDIP lecturers about the many opportunities for research that had previously been seen as challenges for the country.

This meeting revealed that there are numerous resources that lecturers can utilize for their research. “This is why collaboration is essential, as well as meeting and connecting with others. As the saying goes, ‘you can’t care for what you don’t know,'” the Rector added.

The Rector emphasized the importance of taking advantage of all available opportunities for the benefit of the nation and society. “It turns out there are many research centers where UNDIP’s research is also utilized. Until now, we have only used our campus resources, but it turns out there are many tools and access available at BRIN,” he continued.

Research Centers in Jawa Tengah

Meanwhile, the Head of BRIN, Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko, M.Sc., stated in an interview that UNDIP is a major university in Jawa Tengah, recognized even in Jawa Barat. Thus, UNDIP holds a strategic position and should serve as a hub for cross-campus collaboration in the region.

“That’s why we hope UNDIP can establish collaborative research centers. These centers, whether initiated by us or the universities, will be open for all campuses to join, even smaller universities with exceptional lecturers who can be facilitated there,” he said.

In the same event, Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko, M.Sc., delivered a public lecture themed “Strengthening the Ecosystem for Advanced Indonesian Research and Innovation” and concluded with a talk show titled “Opportunities to Become a Leading Researcher and Innovator with a PhD by Age 27.”

Additionally, the LPPM UNDIP Awards 2024 were also presented, including categories such as Journal Accreditation Improvement on SINTA 2024, Quartile of UNDIP Journals on SCIMAGOJR, recipients of international publications indexed in Scopus for exact and non-exact sciences, and Sinta Score (3 years) awards for 3 study programs (for science and technology, social sciences and humanities, and postgraduate programs). *** ed.
