A lecturer from Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., who teaches at the Faculty of Law UNDIP, was invited by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to share his experiences on the challenges and opportunities faced by higher education institutions in implementing internationalization strategies.
The event, held on December 14, 2024, at the Manohara Hotel in Yogyakarta, was organized by the Master of Higher Education Management (Magister Manajemen Pendidikan Tinggi / MMPT) Study Program at the Postgraduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada. Prepared as a national seminar titled “Internationalization of Higher Education Institutions: Lessons Learnt,” academics, practitioners, and students attended the event.
In his presentation, Pulung, who currently serves as the Deputy Director for Partnerships and Global Connectivity, emphasized the importance of international collaboration for higher education institutions to remain relevant in the era of globalization. “Internationalization is not just a trend; it is a necessity for educational institutions to stay relevant in an increasingly global world,” he stated.
He also highlighted various challenges, such as funding, policy differences, and the critical role of institutional support in advancing internationalization. However, according to him, the benefits of international collaboration far outweigh the challenges.
The seminar was divided into two main sessions. The first session featured speakers from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), namely Luluk Lusiantoro, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr.rer.nat. Dian Sari Utami, S.Psi., M.A. They shared their experiences with internationalization in their respective institutions.
Meanwhile, the second session included speakers from Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) and Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (UNSOED), namely Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., and Dr. Ir. Condro Wibowo, M.Sc.
The seminar also provided an interactive dialogue forum, enabling participants to share experiences and best practices in internationalization. Through a collaborative approach, the event underscored the importance of global partnerships to advance higher education, including cooperation in the areas of the Tri Dharma of higher education and accreditation by international bodies.
The participation of UNDIP lecturers in this seminar demonstrates the university’s contribution to supporting the development of internationalization in higher education in Indonesia.
