Improving Global Reputation, UNDIP Prepares Young Lecturers to Continue Studies Abroad

Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), as it is committed to becoming a World-Class University (WCU), continues to enhance the quality of education and global competitiveness. One of its initiatives involves preparing young lecturers to pursue doctoral studies abroad through various scholarship schemes and providing comprehensive training to meet the requirements. On Friday, January 10, 2025, UNDIP collaborated with @studyabroadcenter.id to hold the “2025 UNDIP Overseas PhD Scholarship Preparation Socialization: How to Get Fully Funded Scholarships for Doctoral Degrees” at the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. Building, UNDIP Tembalang. Approximately 500 young lecturers from UNDIP attended the event.

The Vice Rector for Human Resources, Information Technology, Law, and Organization, Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T., officially opened the event and reiterated UNDIP’s goal of achieving a spot in the QS World University Rankings (WUR) Top 500. “We are preparing all of you to study abroad, and we hope those present here will pursue PhD programs overseas. We have excellent researchers with extraordinary impact. Enjoy the workshop and pay close attention to its stages,” said Prof. Adian.

Prof. Ir. Mochamad Arief Budiharjo, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., Director of Human Resources at UNDIP, strongly supported the overseas study program for lecturers and encouraged attendees to directly inquire about the process at the UNDIP Human Resources Directorate.

The first session was a talk show themed “How to Win Scholarship for Studying Abroad” by invited speakers, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc. IPU. (Director of Reputation, Partnership and Global Connectivity) who is included in the Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide 2024 by Stanford University; and Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Dean of the Faculty of Psychology UNDIP) who won the Gold Winner Award of Anugerah DIKTI Saintek 2024. Guided by Prof. Dr. Moh. Djaeni, S.T., M.Eng. as the moderator, this talk show session focused on motivating overseas scholarship participants both materially and immaterially.

Prof. Hadiyanto, in his presentation “Study Abroad and Funding,” emphasized the importance of understanding the types of PhD scholarships available domestically and internationally and their relevance to the participant’s field of study. “Research the university’s website and understand the required CV format, whether it’s an American or European style,” he advised.

Prof. Dian Sawitri’s presentation, “How to Mentally Prepare for Study Abroad,” highlighted the need for a learning mindset and readiness to learn. “Conduct a literature review on your field of interest. Remember, your PhD supervisor is key as they will guide you for three years,” she explained.

Next is the Sharing Session: How to be Resilience During Studying Abroad. This session featured Muhammad Mujiya Ulkhaq, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering) as the speaker and Muhammad Badrul Huda, S.Si., M.Sc., as the moderator. In his presentation, “Dare to Study Abroad,” Dr. Mujiya shared his experiences and emphasized that scholarship success requires thorough preparation and the right strategies. “Choose your university and program wisely, and always remember to pray as everyone has their destiny,” he remarked.

The next session is the IELTS Preparation Workshop. Ns. Ryka Widyaningtyas, S.Kep., M.Sc., a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and CEO and Founder of @studyabroadcenter.id, led this session. The “IELTS and LPDP Mentorship Class” is part of UNDIP’s partnership with @studyabroadcenter.id to facilitate PhD application preparations. Participants underwent an IELTS placement test (listening and reading) to assess their English proficiency. Following the mentorship class, official IELTS tests will be conducted for free, with schedules tailored to the placement test results and participants’ functional positions.

With these efforts, UNDIP aims to advance its position with the support of young and empowered researchers to achieve Global Reputation and Global Recognition. (Titis – Media Relations)
