UNDIP, Semarang (June 11, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has officially begun construction on its second jogging track within the Tembalang campus forest. The groundbreaking ceremony took place Wednesday morning (June 11, 2025) and was led by the UNDIP Rector. The Chair of the Academic Senate, the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Vice Rectors, Deans of faculties/schools, and other university leaders attended the event.
Jogging Track 2 will repurpose a previously underutilized forested area that mainly served as shade. The space is now being developed into an active green area for UNDIP’s academic community and the surrounding public to enjoy for physical activities and recreation.
In his remarks, the UNDIP Rector said the project is part of the university’s long-term commitment to building a healthy and environmentally-friendly campus.
“Jogging Track 2 is part of our vision to create functional and inclusive spaces within UNDIP campus. The first track on the west side is often crowded and remains active into the evening. That’s why we’re building this one on the east side, extending to the education reservoir. Hopefully, this will become a more beautiful and health-promoting face of UNDIP,” said Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.
One of the highlights of the second jogging track is the planned Agritourism Park, which will be managed in collaboration with the Agricultural and Animal Sciences study program under UNDIP’s Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences.
“The Agritourism Park will feature melons, Musang King durians, beef cattle, and broiler chickens. It’s open to the public, and visitors from kindergarten to high school are welcome to come and enjoy UNDIP,” Prof. Suharnomo added.
The construction contract for Jogging Track 2 is valued at IDR 11.9 billion and will be carried out by CV Dewa Angkasa Raya Semarang, with supervision from CV Mitra Bersama Mandiri. The project is expected to be completed within seven months, from May 19 through December 14, 2025.
UNDIP’s Commitment-Making Official emphasized that the project would be carried out on time and with full transparency and accountability.
“We are committed to delivering the project on schedule and within budget, while upholding accountability and transparency throughout the process,” said Ari Eko Widyantoro, S.T., M.Si., who serves as Commitment-Making Official as well as UNDIP’s Asset and Planning Manager.
The project will cover 35,000 square meters, stretching 440 meters from the main security post to the Sikatak Bridge. Planned features include pedestrian and jogging paths, open green spaces, themed gardens (featuring rare trees, fruit gardens, and flower gardens), outdoor gym equipment, gazebos, bleachers, restrooms, plazas, and other eco-friendly infrastructure.
With the addition of Jogging Track 2, UNDIP now offers two options for sports and recreation. The first track, completed in 2021, has been consistently popular and often crowded. The new facility is expected to serve as both an alternative recreational space and an educational tourism destination. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ninok Hariyani)
