SEMARANG, Indonesia (September 16, 2025) – Not every success story begins in a scholar’s home or with abundant resources. Some are rooted in simplicity—in a mother’s prayer, even her readiness to part with jewelry so her child could stay in school. From that place, Bryant Andhika Prayoga, a bachelor’s graduate in Chemistry from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), walked a long road toward the global stage.
Bryant completed his degree in 3 years, 9 months, and 29 days, graduating summa cum laude with a GPA of 3.90. Yet the numbers only scratch the surface. His actual achievement was cultivating the courage to dream globally, born not of privilege but of perseverance, nurtured through long nights in UNDIP’s modest laboratories.
After earning his degree, Bryant chose a career as a researcher. He served as a research assistant in bioelectrochemistry at UNDIP and as a visiting researcher at the Research School of Chemistry at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra.
There, he learned under Prof. Zongyou Yin, a world-renowned scientist with experience at Harvard and MIT. From him, Bryant realized research is not merely about data tables but also a lesson in perseverance and patience.
Bryant is now preparing for the next step, applying to Master’s and Ph.D. programs. Among the universities considering him are Oxford, Stanford, Imperial College London, University of Vienna, University of Groningen, University of New South Wales, ANU, University of Twente, and University of Technology Sydney. For Bryant, the list is not just about prestige, but also proof that research from Semarang City can resonate at the heart of global science.
Numerous accolades marked his journey at UNDIP. He was named first place in UNDIP’s Undergraduate Outstanding Student 2024 competition, second runner-up in the National Outstanding Student Awards, and top four in Jawa Tengah’s PILMAPRES contest.
Internationally, he earned a gold medal at the World Young Inventors Exhibition in Malaysia, a research award from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and the 2024 Future Research Talent Award at ANU, an exclusive program granted to only a select number of Indonesian students.
He also stood on the TEDx UNDIP 2025 stage as a main speaker, sharing his research and global dreams, and secured more than Rp400 million in research sponsorships. His academic journey has nearly taken him across 13 countries in Asia, Australia, and Europe.
Behind the medals and awards, Bryant holds firmly to values that echo UNDIP’s tagline, “Noble and Valuable.” “Noble means maintaining integrity, refusing shortcuts, and competing honestly. Valuable means ensuring that every personal achievement opens paths for others,” he said.
When speaking at TEDx UNDIP, he saw the stage not as a platform for himself but as an opportunity to inspire his peers to dream further.
Bryant believes UNDIP’s vision of entering the world’s top 500 universities is not only the responsibility of leadership but also of its students. His approach is simple yet impactful—placing UNDIP’s name in global academic conversations through publications, conferences, and collaborative research.
“Every time my paper is published in an international journal or I stand at a global forum, I know UNDIP’s name is also lifted. That is a real contribution students can make to help our university cross boundaries,” Bryant said.
In closing, he urged UNDIP students not to limit themselves to only studying in the classroom. “Classrooms are a starting point, not the finish line. The world is waiting to be explored. Every step we take outside carries not only our name but also UNDIP’s,” he said.
“Don’t just excel at taking notes in lectures—dare to make history. Be a generation that upholds integrity, brings benefit, creates real impact, and is ready to compete on the global stage. The world does not wait, but it always opens for those bold enough to knock—and UNDIP has already given us the key,” Bryant concluded.
The story of Bryant Andhika Prayoga serves as proof of the “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” spirit, aligned with the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” program, which fosters an excellent generation ready to explore the world while staying rooted in Semarang City. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ DHW)
