UNDIP, Semarang (October 24, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) welcomed a visit from the British Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste, Dominic Jermey, who was accompanied by several officials from the British Embassy on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Rector’s Guest Room, Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.
In his discussion with the Rector of UNDIP, Ambassador Dominic Jermey expressed his full support for efforts to advance higher education in Indonesia.
Jermey also conveyed his willingness to facilitate potential collaborations between Indonesian universities and leading institutions in the United Kingdom.
“As a representative of a friendly nation, we are honored to visit Universitas Diponegoro,” said Dominic Jermey. He also voiced his support for UNDIP to continue advancing and expanding its role in the international higher education landscape, noting that UNDIP is regarded as an equal partner to many British universities in contributing to the development of science and modern technology.
The visit of the British Ambassador and embassy officials is part of a new strategic partnership, agreed earlier in 2025, between President Prabowo Subianto and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
“I have also heard that President Prabowo places great importance on education and healthcare issues in Indonesia,” added Ambassador Jermey.
Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed pride in the visit of Ambassador Jermey to UNDIP. Prof. Suharnomo explained that UNDIP has established strong synergies with many prestigious universities worldwide, including those in the United Kingdom.
“Among them is the Liverpool School of Medicine, UK, which collaborates with UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine,” said the Rector.
This collaboration supports UNDIP’s commitment to achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by improving health outcomes.
The joint program between UNDIP’s Faculty of Medicine and the Liverpool School of Medicine focuses on enhancing healthcare professionals’ capacity to manage obstetric emergencies, aiming to prevent maternal and infant mortality in Brebes Regency.
Beyond this partnership, UNDIP also maintains collaborative networks with several other UK universities.
With tens of thousands of enrolled students, UNDIP now ranks second among Indonesian public universities in student population, after Universitas Brawijaya.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Hadiyanto, S.T., M.Sc., IPU, Director of Global Partnership and Connectivity at UNDIP, added that the university’s strong reputation is supported by recognition from various international and national ranking institutions.
These include UniRank University Ranking, QS World University Ranking, UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, SCImago Institutions Rankings, Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, EduRank, and Times Higher Education World University Rankings, among others.
Not only has UNDIP achieved top-tier rankings, but many of its researchers have also earned global recognition—UNDIP lecturers are among the top 2% of scientists worldwide, according to international data.
“The presence of UNDIP intellectuals in this list reflects the quality of Indonesian research that can compete globally,” stated Prof. Hadiyanto.
Also present at the meeting were Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D. (Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Public Communication); Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., LLM (Deputy Director of Global Partnership and Connectivity); and Abdul Rohman, S.Hum.
