For more than two decades, the Nursing Science Department at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has made significant contributions to implementing the Tri Dharma of higher education. On its 25th anniversary, the Nursing Science Department (Departemen Ilmu Keperawatan / DIK) at the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP, in collaboration with Ahmad Yani International Airport Semarang, organized an educational and health screening event on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The theme “Fly with Confidence” was chosen by the team with the hope that airport service users would have their health needs facilitated before flying.
The event began with an opening ceremony led by an alumna of the Nursing Science Department UNDIP Ns. Suwaryanti, S.Kep., M.Kep. The opening was lively, with two students performing a traditional Gambang Semarang dance. Additionally, representatives of the Nursing Science Department UNDIP and Ahmad Yani Airport gave speeches. The opening ceremony concluded with a prayer and the presentation of souvenirs.
“As an institution actively promoting a Healthy Airport, we are pleased with the active participation of Diponegoro University in providing health services. Airport users need to ensure their health before embarking on air travel,” said General Manager (GM) Fajar Purwawidada in his speech.
The General Manager was accompanied by other senior management staff, including several managers and senior managers of Ahmad Yani International Airport Semarang. Meanwhile, the Head of the Nursing Science Undergraduate Study Program, Agus Santoso, S. Kp., M.Kep., also expressed his hopes for the continuation of the collaboration between the two parties.
“We hope that the activities included in the Tri Dharma of higher education, especially community service, can continue and reach all layers of society,” concluded Agus Santoso, supported by accompanying lecturers Ns. Zubaidah, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.An., and Ns. Reni Sulung Utami, S.Kep., M.Sc.
The main activities, including health checks, massages, and a counseling corner, took place after the opening ceremony. The enthusiasm of airport service users and staff added to the excitement of the morning event. In less than two hours, the team served 50 health check participants, 20 massage participants, and dozens of counseling corner participants. The health check stand became the most popular choice among visitors. The massage stand also attracted many visitors. The main activities were interspersed with a casual talk about jet lag, a condition that can affect individuals flying across different time zones.
Additionally, partners from the Semarang City Department of Culture and Tourism (DISBUDPAR) were present, providing live music performances. The series of events took place in the Exhibition Hall of Ahmad Yani International Airport Semarang. The event then extended to the departure area in the boarding lounge to ensure service accessibility for prospective airplane passengers.
“This activity is part of our community service in the field of aerospace health, particularly aviation nursing. We hope aerospace health practices continue to develop in Indonesia and the role of nurses in aviation expands. This project is expected to be an initial step in that development,” said Ns. Nur Hafizhah Widyaningtyas, M.Kep., the activity director for the day. The event concluded with a group photo of the organizing team. (Nursing Science Department Team ed. Ut-Public Relations)
