UNDIP Establishes Synergy with Media to Overcome Disinformation

UNDIP, Semarang (18/04) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering healthy, strategic, and collaborative public communication in the digital era. Through the Directorate of Media Network, Community, and Public Communication, UNDIP held a Media Gathering titled “Synergy with Media for a Noble and Valuable UNDIP” on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the BAA Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, SA-MWA Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.

The event was attended by more than 30 journalists from various local and national media outlets, serving as a platform for networking and reinforcing the synergy between UNDIP and media professionals. The event was welcomed by Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., accompanied by the Director of the Media Network, Community, and Public Communication, Dr. Nurul Hasfi, S.Sos., M.A., and Deputy Director, Ratna Wahyu Setyaningtyas, S.H., M.Si.

This gathering provided a shared space to strengthen communication networks and reaffirm a joint commitment to delivering credible, accurate information and building a positive image of the university in the public eye.

In his address, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D. emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and media as a strategic pillar of national development. “This synergy is not only about disseminating information but also about collectively countering disinformation circulating in public spaces,” he stated.

Dr. Wijayanto further explained that amidst the rapid spread of misinformation, the roles of journalists and academics are increasingly crucial in presenting truth based on data and scientific insight. “The collaboration between campuses and the media is essential to bring enlightenment to society. UNDIP opens collaboration opportunities through the JUARA Forum (Jurnalis dan Akademisi) as a platform for dialogue and interviews between the media and experts to promote public literacy grounded in research and data,” he said.

“We must safeguard the public sphere from being dominated by misleading information. This collaboration is a strategic effort to deliver truth and enlightenment to society,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nurul Hasfi, Director of the Media Network, Community, and Public Communication, presented UNDIP’s direction in public communication policies, which are inclusive, accountable, and data-driven. She underscored the importance of viewing media as a strategic partner in shaping impactful and constructive public narratives.

Dr. Nurul also added that UNDIP is currently opening wider access to its pool of experts who have not been widely heard in public discourse. “We want these experts to connect with media outlets so they can contribute their insights to address societal issues. This action also responds to the media’s need for diverse academic voices,” she said.

The Media Gathering concluded with a group photo, interactive discussions, and a warm and collaborative networking session. The event also served as a forum to exchange ideas, feedback, and aspirations for stronger and more sustainable partnerships. Journalists expressed appreciation for UNDIP’s openness and commitment to building transparent and solution-oriented communication.
