UNDIP, Semarang (July 3, 2025) – The Badminton Student Activity Unit (UKM Bulutangkis) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) is hosting the Rector’s Cup UNDIP OPEN 2025, a national-level badminton championship taking place from July 3–6, 2025, at the Polytron Stadium UNDIP in Semarang. The event features a national inter-university and senior high school (SMA/equivalent) tournament, along with a Semarang City-level tournament for youth categories (early age, children, and beginner levels).
The opening ceremony of the Rector’s Cup UNDIP OPEN 2025 was held on July 3 at 9 a.m. at the Polytron Stadium, attended by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.; Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T.; Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication Wijayanto, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D.; Deans of Faculties/Schools, and other UNDIP Directors and Deputy Directors.
UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo officially opened the Rector’s Cup UNDIP OPEN 2025. In his remarks, he expressed pride in the student badminton unit’s ability to organize the tournament and extended a warm welcome to all participants. “For this national-level championship, we are joined by 115 senior high schools and 29 universities from across Indonesia. UNDIP holds a global reputation, and we are proud to be part of these young athletes’ competitive journeys in badminton,” he said.
Prof. Suharnomo also emphasized UNDIP’s popularity as the second most-applied university in Indonesia through the SNBT (National Selection Based on Test) pathway. He added that UNDIP offers the SBUB (Achievement-Based Talent Selection) pathway, which includes sports and the arts, such as badminton. “We hope that many of you will one day join UNDIP through the SBUB path. Welcome, and good luck in the tournament—this is the place to gain health, network, and a glimpse of future achievements. Sportive behavior is victory!” he concluded.

Naufal Faturohman, Chair of the UNDIP OPEN 2025 Committee, delivered his report at the opening ceremony. “The first day of matches begins today. We have a total of 327 teams and 475 participants. Through this tournament, we aim to channel the potential of young badminton athletes and foster a competitive badminton climate in Indonesia,” said Naufal.
UNDIP’s main agenda through this tournament is to cultivate interest and talent among top badminton athletes competing at the national level. The UNDIP OPEN 2025 features the following categories:
- Men’s and Women’s Singles (High School and University)
- Men’s and Women’s Doubles (High School and University)
- Mixed Doubles (High School and University)
- Early Age Boys and Girls (Semarang City)
- Children Boys and Girls (Semarang City)
- Beginner Boys and Girls (Semarang City)
- Boys Doubles for Children and Beginners (Semarang City)
Matches are held over four days from July 3 to 6, 2025, at Polytron Stadium UNDIP, an international-standard badminton venue supported by the Djarum Foundation, Polytron, and iForte. The stadium features five courts, each measuring 13.4 x 6.10 meters, with a Flypower surface that includes a 100% PVC wear layer, a grid stabilizing layer, a fiberglass layer, a decompression layer, and a foam layer. The spectator stands can accommodate up to 300 people and are equipped with disability-friendly restrooms, athlete lounges, office spaces, and a merchandise room.
The championship will culminate on the fourth day with semifinal matches on four courts, final matches on three courts, and an awarding ceremony for the winners. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Titis)
