UNDIP, Semarang (03/10) – The Enhancing Higher Education Capacity for Sustainable Data Driven Food Systems in Indonesia (FIND4S) consortium is holding a series of academic and capacity-building events from October 1–10, 2025, hosted at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Semarang. The visit brings European partners from four leading universities: KU Leuven (Belgium), Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Portugal), University College Dublin (Ireland), and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany).
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Sugiharto, Dean of the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences UNDIP, who highlighted the value of international collaboration and conveyed the faculty’s aspiration to contribute meaningfully on the global stage in shaping the future of sustainable agriculture.
Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, FIND4S is designed to enhance higher education capacity in Indonesia by integrating food sustainability and data science into curriculum design, research practices, and institutional strategies. The program also seeks to strengthen international partnerships to address global challenges in food systems and higher education.
During the EU partners’ visit, a series of activities are being conducted under the FIND4S Capacity Building Workshop, including guest lectures by European academics, specialized training sessions on data science and sustainability, laboratory visits to facilitate research exchange, and academic forums to review program progress and explore long-term collaboration.
Dr. Yoga Pratama, the Indonesia FIND4S Coordinator from UNDIP, noted that the arrival of the European delegates symbolizes a true partnership in capacity building.
“Their presence here reflects more than just academic collaboration, it shows how we, as Indonesian and European partners, work together to strengthen higher education in food sustainability and data science. This joint effort is highly beneficial, not only for enhancing our academic and research capacity, but also for building international networks that will create lasting impacts for education, innovation, and community development in Indonesia,” he said.
Prof. Jan Van Impe of KU Leuven, the overall project coordinator of FIND4S, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, stating that he was pleased with his visit and “thrilled with the strong commitment shown by Universitas Diponegoro as the lead of the Indonesian partners. UNDIP’s leadership and dedication are crucial to ensuring the success of this partnership and in realizing the long-term vision of sustainable, data-driven food systems.”
The Indonesian partners, led by UNDIP, includes six other partner universities: Universitas Nasional Karangturi Semarang (UNKARTUR), Universitas Tidar (UNTIDAR), Universitas Semarang (USM), Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS), Universitas PGRI Semarang (UPGRIS), and Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Semarang (UNTAG Semarang). Together with their European counterparts, these institutions are implementing innovative practices that support a more sustainable, data-driven future for food systems in Indonesia.
Through this visit, FIND4S seeks to foster enduring academic networks and equip Indonesian universities with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation in sustainable, data-driven food systems. The program reflects the shared commitment of European and Indonesian partners to deliver transformative impacts on education, research, and societal progress. (Public Communication/ FPP/ Yoga, ed.
