UNDIP, Ende (December 4, 2025) – The Patriot Expedition Program, initiated by the Ministry of Transmigration and Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) through the UNDIP Patriot Expedition Team Output 2 (TEP UNDIP Output 2) in Maukaro, Ende Regency, officially entered its final reporting stage. It was finalized during the Final Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Ruang Garuda, 2nd Floor Hall, Ende Regent’s Office, East Nusa Tenggara.
The Patriot Expedition Program, which ran from August 27 to December 1, 2025, focused on developing an Integrated Transmigration Economic Zone (KETT), particularly through the development of Bali cattle as the flagship commodity. This movement was approached through integrating local potential and strengthening regional institutions.
For more than three months, TEP UNDIP Output 2 carried out a series of strategic activities, including field surveys and primary and secondary data collection; mapping of regional potential and socio-economic structures; identifying priority commodities through participatory FGDs with village and sub-district stakeholders; formulating short-, medium-, and long-term development strategies and designs; conducting value chain analyses; and mapping spatial economic potential of the commodity. Bali cattle were identified as the primary focus for area development due to their strong potential in the local economy, land availability, community characteristics, and inter-island market opportunities.
The Deputy Regent of Ende, drg. Dominikus Minggu Mere, M.Kes, dr, also attended the Final FGD along with representatives from several regional offices, including the Agriculture Office, the Village Community Empowerment Office, the Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, the Industry and Trade Office, and the Transmigration and Manpower Office, which serves as the primary coordinator for the Bali cattle development program. During the FGD, TEP UNDIP Output 2 presented a model for strengthening village-based institutions using an integrative approach that places BUMDesma (Inter-Village Owned Enterprise) as the center of large ruminant livestock economic activities across villages in support of inter-island marketing.
In his remarks, Deputy Regent Dominikus Minggu Mere emphasized that integrating village institutions with UNDIP’s academic support is a strategic step toward strengthening the economy of transmigration communities in Maukaro District. “With the development of Bali cattle in the Maukaro transmigration area, we fully support this initiative, and we hope it becomes a collaborative model for Ende Regency as well as the wider region of East Nusa Tenggara,” he said.
Through cross-institutional synergy and the support of the Ende Regency Government, the Patriot Expedition Program is expected to become a national model for developing transmigration areas based on local superior commodities.
TEP UNDIP Output 2 and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing institutional assistance, improving farmers’ capacities, and strengthening value chain models so that Bali cattle from Maukaro can compete in regional and national markets.
“We at TEP UNDIP Output 2 sincerely hope that what we have designed together with the regional government, the community, and local groups for the Integrated Transmigration Economic Zone for Bali Cattle Farming can be realized, and we are always ready to support it with the scientific knowledge and technology we have, in collaboration with several local universities in East Nusa Tenggara,” concluded Ir. Daud Samsudewa, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., IPM., Head of TEP UNDIP Output 2 Maukaro Ende. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ende Patriot Expedition Team)
