UNDIP’s Department of Nutrition Appoints Associate Professor from the University of the Ryukyus, Japan, as Adjunct Professor

UNDIP, Semarang (September 9, 2025) – The Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) reaffirmed its commitment to becoming a world-class university by welcoming an international academic. Yonathan Asikin, S.TP., M.Si., Ph.D., Associate Professor from the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, University of the Ryukyus, Japan, has officially joined as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, UNDIP for a one-year term, from August 21, 2025, to August 20, 2026.

Prof. Asikin’s initial visit lasted ten days as part of a World Class University (WCU)–funded program. During his stay in Semarang, he participated in various academic activities, including guest lectures, laboratory workshops, and mentoring sessions for the writing and refinement of scientific articles by lecturers and students.

Research collaboration is not new for Prof. Asikin at UNDIP. He has previously collaborated with several lecturers of the Department of Nutrition, including Dr. Fitriyono Ayustaningwarno, S.TP., M.Si., as host, as well as Dr. Nuryanto, S.Gz., M.Gizi. and Dr. Ninik Rustanti, S.TP., M.Si.

With Prof. Asikin’s appointment as Adjunct Professor, UNDIP expects not only to increase the number of international faculty members but also to enhance the volume of high-impact scientific publications and expand international research networks in the fields of nutrition science and food biotechnology.

Prof. Asikin’s presence will bring a positive impact, particularly in improving academic quality, research output, and the global networking of the Department of Nutrition,” said Dr. Fitriyono Ayustaningwarno.
