UNDIP, Qatar (26/01) – Universitas Diponegoro once again demonstrated its international competitiveness through the outstanding achievements of the Antawirya Team at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East 2026, held at the Lusail International Circuit, Doha, Qatar, from January 21–25, 2026. In the energy-efficient vehicle competition, which was participated in by 82 teams from various countries, the UNDIP Antawirya Team secured 2nd Place in the Prototype Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category and 4th Place in the Prototype Battery Electric (EV) category. It was officially declared as Qualified for the World Championship Shell Eco-marathon 2027.
At this event, UNDIP fielded two teams—Antawirya Rodhan ICE and Antawirya Rodhan EV—competing in the Prototype vehicle category. Racing on a world-class circuit, both teams performed competitively and consistently. The Antawirya Rodhan ICE team recorded an efficiency of up to 1,090 km per liter, the highest achievement for gasoline fuel in its class.
Meanwhile, Antawirya Rodhan EV achieved an efficiency of 745 km/kWh. These results reflect the excellence of vehicle design, precision in energy management strategies, and the high-quality engineering developed by UNDIP students through continuous research and rigorous technical preparation, including performance testing and the formulation of precise race plans.
Thanks to this impressive performance, the Antawirya Rodhan ICE UNDIP team was selected as one of four teams representing the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East region to advance to the World Championship Shell Eco-marathon 2027. This achievement marks a historic milestone for the UNDIP Antawirya Team, which has been in existence for 13 years, and signifies the team’s first qualification for the world championship. Next year, the Antawirya Team will not only represent Universitas Diponegoro and Indonesia. It will also carry the name of Asia as it competes against top teams from the Americas, Europe, and other regions.
The Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the achievement. “The success of the UNDIP Antawirya Team at Shell Eco-marathon 2026 is clear evidence that UNDIP students are capable of competing and being recognized at the global level. This achievement is not only a source of pride for the university but also for Indonesia. UNDIP will continue to support the development of student research and innovation, particularly in environmentally friendly technologies aligned with the sustainable development agenda,” he stated.
This success was made possible by strong team leadership, academic mentorship from Dr.-Ing. Ir. Paryanto, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., as the supervising lecturer, as well as close collaboration between students and lecturers in maintaining research consistency and competition readiness. Dr.-Ing. Paryanto also expressed his appreciation for the support of various parties. “The achievements of the UNDIP Antawirya Team are the result of the team’s hard work and the support of many stakeholders. We extend our gratitude to IKA UNDIP Qatar for their support and attention, which enabled the team to compete and excel at the Shell Eco-marathon,” he said.
Support also came from all members of the Antawirya Team, Antawirya alumni, the Mechanical Engineering Student Association of UNDIP, lecturers, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, the UNDIP Rector, IKA UNDIP Qatar, as well as all partners and stakeholders involved.
On the occasion, the Chair of the Antawirya Team 2025 and General Manager, Fivananda Muhammad Bintang Haramain (Mechanical Engineering student, Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, Class of 2023), stated that the team competing in Qatar consisted of 21 students accompanied by one supervising lecturer. “We prepared ourselves thoroughly. Two months before this international competition, we won 1st place at the national level in both vehicles we entered. That achievement became a strong motivation for the team to continue our efforts at the international level to make Universitas Diponegoro and Indonesia proud,” he explained.
Bintang further added, “When we were announced as 2nd place winners, we felt proud and grateful, but not fully satisfied because we believe we can achieve even better results. What makes us even prouder is that the Antawirya Team has been declared Qualified for the World Championship 2027. This achievement is a historic first for Antawirya UNDIP. Next year, we will not only represent UNDIP and Indonesia, but also Asia in competing at the global level,” he concluded.
This achievement further affirms UNDIP’s commitment to advancing green technology and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in clean energy, industrial innovation, and quality education. With this accomplishment, the UNDIP Antawirya Team has not only brought honor to the university and Indonesia at the regional level, but also to Indonesia at the international level. The Antawirya UNDIP team is also ready to showcase its best innovations at the World Championship Shell Eco-marathon 2027, proving the quality of UNDIP students as the nation’s future leaders on the world stage.
