Puteri Indonesia Central Java 2026, UNDIP Alumna, Initiates #HarmonyInHeritage Movement to Foster Cultural Awareness

UNDIP, Semarang (17/3) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of one of its alumni, Gitta Putri Mardanti, who has been crowned Puteri Indonesia Central Java 2026. Gitta is an alumna of the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, class of 2016. Having been active in various fields since her university years, she has now further solidified her path in the pageant world.

This achievement is the result of a long journey, consistency, and continuous self-development. Gitta shared, “My interest in the pageant world has actually grown since childhood. However, my decision to fully pursue Puteri Indonesia Central Java came from a process over the past eight years.” She realized that standing on stage holds power—not merely for appearance, but as a platform to voice something greater than oneself.

Gitta’s stage experience began during her time at UNDIP, where she was actively involved in the Engineering Student Choir (PSMT) and participated in national and international competitions. She also took part in the Denok Kenang Kota Semarang pageant as a tourism ambassador. Her journey ultimately led her to the Puteri Indonesia Central Java stage, supported by dedication, discipline, and a strong understanding of local culture.

“My motivation for joining Puteri Indonesia Central Java is not merely to win a title, but to expand my impact. I want to be a woman who stands confidently, with capacity, integrity, and a clear vision to contribute to culture and the younger generation of Central Java. For me, the crown is not the final goal, but a symbol of responsibility. And I believe, after going through a long process over many years, I’m ready to step forward as the best version of myself. This success is the result of a long process, prayer, and the consistency I’ve maintained all this time,” she explained.

Reflecting on her academic background, Gitta noted that studying architecture taught her that every space tells a story and every design has an impact on its users. “This way of thinking shaped my perspective on social roles—that every program we design must have clear goals, real impact, and sustainability,” she said.

One of her most memorable experiences was competing internationally with PSMT UNDIP and winning the Grand Prix Winner at the 18th Busan Choral Festival and Competition 2022 in South Korea. “We carried the name of UNDIP and Indonesia. There was tension, emotion, and pride. I learned that harmony is not only about vocal technique, but also trust, discipline, and mutual support,” she recalled.

In addition, PSMT UNDIP received the Best Presentation in Ethnic Category award, recognizing their musical expression and costumes inspired by Indonesian cultural traditions. From this experience, Gitta believes that culture should not be seen merely as a “museum object,” but as something alive, meaningful, and adaptable to contemporary contexts.

The #HarmonyInHeritage movement, initiated by Gitta, aims to bridge the younger generations with Central Java’s cultural heritage through relevant, creative, and modern approaches. “Through performing arts, reinterpretative fashion, collaboration with creative communities, and digital storytelling campaigns, I want to bring Central Java culture closer to the daily lives of young people,” she explained.

Harmony, she believes, represents the balance between tradition and innovation—between noble past values and the courage to transform. When both coexist, culture will not be left behind by time, but will become a strong foundation for the future.

Gitta encourages young people to revive cultural harmony beyond mere nostalgia. According to her, youth are key drivers of change with great potential to advance sectors such as culture and the creative economy. She emphasized the importance of building inclusive and innovative spaces. “I believe that when young people feel heard, valued, and given space, they will become active contributors to development—not just spectators,” she stated. Through her journey and initiatives, Gitta Putri Mardanti demonstrates that achievement, integrity, and a deep love for culture can go hand in hand in building a sustainable future for Central Java and Indonesia.
