UNDIP Wins 2nd Best National Rank as a Sustainable Campus by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2020

As a Legal Entity State University in Indonesia, Diponegoro University supports a series of Sustainable Development Goals. Diponegoro University has consistently taken a role in the achievement and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which is a global development agreement to achieve sustainable development. Undip’s efforts are recognized for its success by winning the 2nd Best National Ranking in the 2020 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards as The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia. In the international ranking, Undip is ranked 39 globally out of 912 universities and 84 countries included in the assessment.
UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards 2020 is a ranking system that provides an assessment and appreciation to universities based on the university’s commitments and actions towards greening and environmental sustainability by implementing environmentally friendly and sustainable policies and programs. Upholding the theme “Universities Responsibility for Sustainable Development Goals and World’s Complex Challenges”, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Awards 2020 conference was held online on December 7th 2020 by inviting environmental experts and representatives from universities. Focusing with the aim of “Green Campus and Sustainability in Universities”, this ranking system is expected to increase the awareness of all parties in institutions to pay more attention to global climate change, energy and water conservation, waste recycling, and green transportation.
This achievement is both an appreciation and an encouragement for Undip to increase its efforts in building a green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable campus. Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH., M.Hum. expressed his gratitude to all Undip academics who have implemented the Sustainable Campus Program with environmentally friendly and sustainable activities. “Undip also seeks to expand green open areas in the form of building parks and campus forests, energy efficiency, the use of environmentally friendly energy, water conservation, green transportation, and campus construction with the concept of green and smart building,” he said. “In the future, Undip hopes to contribute more in preserving and conserving natural resources so that it will have a good impact on our beloved Earth,” he concluded.
