Undip Launches JiTu

Semarang (11/6) – Committed to maintain the health of employees and students as well as to provide discussion space in the main campus, on this year Diponegoro University builds the latest infrastructure namely Diponegoro University Jogging Track, abbreviated as JiTU. Besides being able to be used as an open sports venue, JiTU also provides co-working spaces such as gazebo, sitting group and open theater as places for discussion, studying together, and even hanging out together in open spaces for Undip academic community. The existence of a river in the middle of this JiTU space makes the atmosphere feel more comfortable. This facility is inaugurated directly by Undip Rector on Friday, June 11th 2021 at 08:00 AM. Attending the event are Chair of Academic Senate, Deputy Chair and Secretary of Board of Trustees, Vice Rectors, Deans of Faculties and Schools, Heads of Institutions and Heads of Agencies, as well as invited guests.

The existence of JiTU which unites green public spaces, sports venues and co-working spaces supports the creation of Undip as a sustainable green campus. This is also related to Semarang City Government in building cities and settlements that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The challenge that has to be resolved in relation to JiTU is the management of waste in rivers. Waste management must be carried out together with local residents because the emergence of garbage starts from the upstream of the river. Undip has designed waste management by empowering the community but it has not been realized into actions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is stated by Vice Rector II Undip. Furthermore, it is conveyed that in the long term, this jogging track can be extended to Diponegoro Reservoir area.

Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M. Hum. enthusiastically welcomed the establishment of this jogging track. According to him, the existence of JiTU can provide a positive atmosphere in the midst of busy campus and city lives. Especially during this pandemic, he reminded us to often breathe fresh air. “Let’s be grateful for the situation, in this condition we are still given health. With the inauguration of JiTU, friends from the academic community can already use it, of course by always implementing health protocols. Hopefully it can be useful for all, because the best existence of something is by being useful for others,” concluded Prof. Yos.
