Semarang [09-06-2023]- The Community Service Team of the Diponegoro University (Undip) Vocational School visited the Diponegoro University Vocational School canteen. On this occasion, the team carried the theme “Management of Environmentally Friendly Technology at the Diponegoro University Vocational School to Support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #15”. The Community Service activity team consisted of lecturers and students, namely Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D., Mohamad Endy Julianto, S.T., M.T., Hermawan Dwi Ariyanto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Nurul Pudiastutiningtyas, S.T., Elsan Febiyanti, Alvina Shafa Safira, and Muhammad Iqbal Setya Wardhana. In this activity, the team provided training and an introduction to applying environmentally friendly technology (biopore) in organic waste processing.
Biopore is an environmentally friendly technology in the form of porous holes for processing organic waste to produce compost. Apart from being an organic waste processing tool, biopore is important in preventing floods and helping to carry rainwater into the ground to become quality groundwater.
Following SDGs point 15 regarding land life, this biopore training is intended to provide knowledge and introduction to environmentally friendly technologies that can help protect land, especially soil. This training was carried out in the Vocational School canteen environment, which all canteen managers attended. The movement began with the provision of material on biopore and then continued with a demonstration of the use of environmentally friendly technology (biopore) in processing organic waste.
Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D., (Chairman of the Community Service Team) said, “With this simple tool, one step can help protect our earth because this tool has many benefits including organic waste management solutions, flood prevention, improving groundwater quality and support ecosystems in the soil to make the soil fertile.” “Hopefully, this tool can be useful and help overcome organic waste in the environment,” she continued.
Endang, one of the Vocational School canteen managers, was very pleased with the biopore training because the canteen managers have found it difficult to deal with organic waste in the canteen. If organic waste in the canteen is left in the trash can, it will smell, polluting the environment. Therefore, biopore training is beneficial for canteen managers in handling organic waste.
