The 9th International Workshop on UI Greenmetric World University Rankings: “Innovation, Impacts and Future Direction of Sustainable Universities” on June 16-17, 2023, is an annual International Workshop attended by delegates from 70 universities worldwide from 30 countries. Prof. Rui Vieira de Castro, Rector, Universidade do Minho, Portugal, the organizer of this activity, and Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, Chairperson of UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, officially opened this event. As the resource speaker, Dr. Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga, Portugal, conveyed the management system in the City of Braga, Portugal, as a sustainable city.
At the International Workshop activity, there was a parallel session that was divided into three sessions in two rooms where each representative from various Universities presented programs and good practices implemented at their respective Universities in multiple aspects, namely Innovation, Impacts, and Future Directions of Sustainable Universities in Managing 1) Setting and Infrastructure; 2) Energy and Climate Change; 3) Waste; 4) Water; 5) Transportation; 6) Education and Research.
In this workshop, a delegation from Undip consisting of Prof. Ambariyanto, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation; Prof. Denny Nugroho Sugianto, Head of the Undip Ranking Office; and Dessy Ariyanti, Ph.D. as Managing Editor of the Journal of Sustainability Perspective delivered a presentation entitled Mangrove Conservation and Biodiversity Protection Strategies in Diponegoro University to Achieve Net Zero Emission.
In the presentation, it was conveyed that Undip’s commitment to dealing with the impacts of climate change through the development of settings and infrastructure with mangrove conservation programs and biodiversity protection. In addition, several programs and activities carried out by Undip lecturers and students were also conveyed, such as planting, monitoring mangroves and biodiversity, research and community service on mangrove rehabilitation, and education regarding the importance of ecosystems in storing carbon stocks as a consequence of carbon emissions resulting from daily activities.
In this workshop, several prospects for collaboration initiatives to increase Undip’s visibility were obtained, such as Bukhara State University, Uzbekistan, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan, Ain Shams University, Egypt and Mahidol University, Thailand.
