The Bandhayudha Team of Diponegoro University Won 3rd Place at the National Level and the Best Design Award at the 2023 Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI)

The Bandhayudha Team of Diponegoro University made a proud achievement by winning 3rd Place at the national level and the Best Design award in the 2023 Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) division of the Indonesian ABU Robot Contest (KRAI) held by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI – Puspresnas) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. The event was held offline at the University of Semarang on June 21-26, 2023. The seven divisions contested in the 2023 Indonesia Robot Contest include the Indonesian ABU Robot Contest (KRAI), Wheeled Indonesian Football Robot Contest (KRSBI), Humanoid Indonesian Football Robot Contest (KRSBI), Indonesian SAR Robot Contest (KRSRI), Art Robot Contest Indonesian Dance (KRSRI), Indonesian Thematic Robot Contest (KKRTMI), and Indonesian Underwater Robot Contest (KRBAI). In 2023, 63 universities across Indonesia will participate in the National KRI, which has been screened through regional selection.

The award that the Diponegoro University Robotics Team successfully achieved was 3rd Place and the Best Design award in the Indonesia ABU Robot Contest (KRAI) division. The Bandhayudha team, as a representative in the KRAI Undip division, is a cross-disciplinary team chaired by Miftahul Anwar (Mechanical Engineering) and consists of Sirojudin Munir, Brian Fari Firmansyah, Amalia Inana Kesuma Putri, Bima Arya Wichaksana, Muhammad Faizul Kirom, Haya Zahwa Aqilah, Sindi Octavia, Muhammad Daffa Radithya Widodo, Nindya Puspita Hapsari, Layaalin Mutmainah (Electrical Engineering); Rahmat Ginanto, Fatih Al Hakim, Aufa Rofiqi Abdillah, Mochamad Rizqy (Mechanical Engineering); Muhammad Sulthon Auliya (Computer Engineering); and Hafidh Shafriyan Pamilih (D4 Mechanical Design Engineering). The Bandayudha team was directly guided by Dr. Eng. Munadi, S.T., M.T. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Ir. Hadha Afrisal, S.T., M.Sc., IPP from the Department of Electrical Engineering.

In a very competitive competition, the Bandhayudha team managed to show impressive performance. The team competed with other participants, demonstrating the technological superiority and innovation of the Diponegoro University robotics team. The Bandhayudha team managed to win 3rd Place after winning a match against the Risen team from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) with a full score victory in a relatively short time of 1 minute 51 seconds. With a capable technological design, the Bandhayudha team was also awarded the Best Design award at the peak of the award ceremony and the closing of the 2023 KRI.

Bandhayudha Team Leader, Miftahul Anwar, expressed his joy at this achievement. He stated that the team’s careful preparation and hard work in developing a sophisticated and functional robot had produced satisfactory results. The success of winning 3rd Place at the National level proves the ability and potential of the Bandhayudha Team and Diponegoro University in robotics. Miftahul Anwar also expressed his gratitude to the supervising lecturers and Diponegoro University for providing adequate support and facilities in preparation for the competition.

The Head of the Undip Bandhayudha Team – Miftahul Anwar, said that the Undip Bandhayudha team had prepared the robot for more than six months, starting from the system concept and design to the realization of making the robot. The main challenge in the 2023 KRAI competition is that the team needs to prepare two types of robots with different mechanisms, namely Rabbit Robot (RR) and Elephant Robot (ER), which can throw rings (circles) into the target poles, referring to the competition rules of the 2023 International ABU Robocon as a benchmark for the Indonesian ABU Robot Contest (KRAI). The main challenge is that the robot must enter the ring as quickly and as much as possible to win one-on-one matches, so the team must carry out frequent calibrations and trials to accurately pick up and throw bracelet circles. The robot developed by the Bandhayudha Team features an efficient design, technological reliability, and superior adaptability. The team’s strength lies in good coordination between team members, choosing the right strategy, and expertise in operating robots.

Apart from the Bandhayudha team, Undip robotic teams in other KRI divisions also showed outstanding performance. The EWS Bascorro Team (Indonesian Humanoid Football Robot Contest division) and the EWS Andromeda Team (Indonesian SAR Robot Contest division) made it into the top 8 best teams in Indonesia, and the EWS Barracuda team made it into the top 16 best teams in Indonesia. The 2023 Indonesian Robot Contest has provided valuable experience for the Bandhayudha Team and the entire Diponegoro University robotics team. The 3rd Place winner at the national level and the Best Design Award are important milestones to boost enthusiasm in the Undip robotics team’s journey towards excellence in robotics. With good confidence and motivation, the Bandhayudha Team and the entire Undip robotics team will continue to develop their skills and participate in robotic competitions, with the hope that in the future, they will be able to increase their achievements, both at the regional, national and international levels in the coming years. Congratulations and success to the Bandhayudha Team and Undip Robotics Team!
