Three Environmental Engineering Department Students UNDIP Participate in Study at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan

Three Department of Environmental Engineering Undip students left for Japan on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, to participate in a student exchange program at Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT). The three students are Adieba Luthfia from the Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, Bening Laksa Intan from the Environmental Engineering Master Program, and Denny Hendrik from the Environmental Engineering Master Program. They received scholarships from JASSO (Japan Student Services Association) to be able to undergo study and research for three months at TUT.

This program is the result of a collaboration between Diponegoro University, Toyohashi University of Technology, and JASSO in providing opportunities for students to gain experience studying and doing research in Japan. The Undip Environmental Engineering Department sent its students for the first time to participate in this program in 2022. Four groups have departed to study at TUT from Undip Environmental Engineering.

Adieba Luthfia, one of the scholarship recipients, said that she first learned about this program from a friend who was also part of the group sent to TUT in the previous period. In this program, she must go through two stages of selection, namely file selection and interviews. “I know that this program started last year because one of my classmates also went to Japan through this program. To be able to take part in this program, I had to go through 2 stages of selection, namely file selection and interviews.”

She also explained while at TUT, she became a short-term visiting international student with time to study as an international student for three months. Different things were experienced by two other students from the Environmental Engineering Master Program, where they were selected as special research students who would focus on conducting research in the laboratory under the guidance of a professor from TUT, Prof. Takanobu Inoue. “In this program, I am a Short-term Visiting International Student, and two Master of Environmental Engineering students are Special Research Students,” she said.

This program starts on July 5 and ends on September 27. As in the previous period, scholarship recipients will undergo many activities ranging from research, classes, lab seminars, and other study activities. Hopefully, the students who study abroad can gain valuable experience and useful knowledge.
