The Statistics Student Team of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University (FSM Undip) made a prestigious achievement at the national level. This time, the FSM Undip Statistics student team won 1st place in the Ria Statistics event and Data Science Festival (Satria Data) in 2023 in the Statistics Essay Competition (SEC) competition category, which was held at Brawijaya University Malang on August 20-24, 2023.
The 1st winner in the Statistics Essay Competition (SEC) was a team consisting of Muhammad Ayesha Arif Sandy (Leader), Agung Ragil Sampurna (Member), and Devy Kusuma Putri (Member). In addition, the FSM Undip Statistics team consisting of Samuel Theodore, Lie (Leader), Syair Dafiq Faizur Rachman (Member), and Apri Dwi Rachmadi (Member) made it into the Top 12 National in the Big Data Challenge (BDC) competition.
Satria Data 2023 consists of 4 (four) competition categories, namely the National Statistics Competition (NSC), Statistics Essay Competition (SEC), Statistics Infographics Competition (SIC), and Big Data Challenge (BDC). Undip sent 171 students to take part in 4 (four) fields of competition, including 12 NSC participants, 19 SEC teams (1 team consisting of 1 leader and 2 members), 20 SIC teams (1 team consisting of 1 leader and 2 members), and 14 BDC teams (1 team consisting of 1 leader and 2 members).
Dr. Di Asih I Maruddani, S.Si., M.Sc., as the PIC of the FSM Undip Statistics team, said she was proud and grateful for the achievements that had been achieved. “This victory must be a strength to continue to improve preparation and process so that in the coming year, we can still maintain our achievements. I hope to bring more finalists and win in other competitions,” she said.
Dr. Di Asih I Maruddani revealed that students participating in Satria Data 2023 have the best talents from the FSM Undip Statistics Department according to their respective interests and abilities. “We provide debriefing and also organize competition seminars by presenting guest lecturers from IPB University who are the overall champions of Satria Data 2022, namely Dr. Bagus Sartono, M.Si., to provide tips and tricks from each field of competition. Intensive assistance is also carried out by supervising lecturers and inviting competent lecturers,” she said.
At Satria Data 2023, the FSM Undip Statistics team was guided by several competent lecturers, including Dr. Di Asih I Maruddani, S.Si., M.Si. (PIC), Deby Fakhriyana, S.Si., M.Stat. (assistant lecturer for the NSC competition), Arief Rachman Hakim, S.Si., M.Si. (SEC competition supervising lecturer), Iut Tri Utami, S.Si., M.Si. (supervisor for the SIC competition), and Puspita Kartikasari, S.Si., M.Si. (BDC competition supervising lecturer).
Previously, the FSM Undip Statistics team in Satria Data 2021 won 3 (three) places in the SIC competition. In addition, FSM Undip Statistics Department students also won 3 (three) positions in the Statfest National Statistics Olympiad at UGM in 2023. In the future, the FSM Undip Statistics team will take part in various competitions. “We plan to participate in the Padjadjaran Statistics Olympiad (RATIO) Competition, Statistics Explore 2023, at the Syiah Kuala Aceh University and Data Doctor at Diponegoro University,” he said.
“We believe that the talents of the FSM Undip Statistics Department can compete at the national and international levels. Our job as guides is to discover and hone their passions and talents. Continuous guidance and direction will make them recognize and sharpen their respective abilities,” he explained.
Satria Data 2023 is organized by the National Achievement Center, Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, through the technical implementation unit of the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI). The activity, which took place in a hybrid manner hosted by Universitas Brawijaya, carried the theme “Innovating with Data: Freedom to Inspire, Create Solutions, and Build the Nation.” Satria Data 2023 is a national scale activity consisting of 3 (three) activity groups: Insight Development, Competition Activities, and Credit Earning.
