One of the Diponegoro University D3 Chemical Engineering class of 2001 alumni, Paustinus Gunarto, S.T., has been successful as an entrepreneur and owner of PT Sabatani Global Solusindo. It is a large company operating in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) sector with hundreds of employees. His work began after completing his final assignment guidance, which at that time was supervised by lecturer Mohamad Endy Julianto S.T., M.T. until graduation. Gugun, his nickname, has worked in the industry for 10 (ten) years. His strong commitment to creating job opportunities that would be more beneficial for many people encouraged him to establish his own company with his younger brother after he felt he had sufficient experience.
As the company develops, to obtain superior and competent human resources who are ready to work, the Owner of PT Sabatani Global Solusindo collaborates with the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program (TRKI) of Vocational School Undip to hold a Recruitment Campus for the selection of the position “Design & Calculation Process Equipment.” This activity is to absorb graduates with excellent competencies needed by companies operating in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) fields.
Chair of the TRKI Study Program of Vocational School Undip, Mohamad Endy Julianto S.T., M.T., said that this collaboration cannot be separated from the business development of PT Sabatani Global Solusindo. This development requires many prospective workers or graduates who are competent or skilled in their fields. “TRKI Vocational School Undip is one of the universities chosen by PT Sabatani Global Solusindo to obtain competent personnel. Our graduates suit what the company needs. SGS is one of the largest companies in the EPC sector in Indonesia,” said Endy, his nickname when met at the Vocational Campus Undip. This suitability is based on the education system at TRKI, which has implemented the “Dual System,” thereby producing work-ready graduates with the competencies they possess.
Endy added, “Collaboration with PT Sabatani Global Solusindo has now entered the stage of sending CVs and other files online. The planned selection includes stages in the form of IQ test, DISC, academic test and those who pass are followed by interviews with users, and finally with HRD at the end of October 2023 at the Vocational campus Undip.” “Incidentally, on the same date, an MoU will also be signed between the TRKI Study Program and PT Sabatani Global Solusindo,” he added.
According to Endy, who is the Ministry of Education and Research and Technology’s KI & Industrial Patent Reviewer Team, this collaboration cannot be separated from the Vocational School Undip continuing to create graduates who are ready to work. The students are also given education on campus by lecturers and from teaching practitioners (industry lecturers), as well as “design specifications” for developing IPR-certified innovative products. Apart from that, students also carry out internships in companies and industries for a minimum of 6 months to 1.5 years. “So when students graduate, they are ready to enter the world of work and entrepreneurship. “This is what makes many companies interested in looking for vocational graduates as workers or experts in developing their companies, one of which is PT Sabatani Global Solusindo,” said Endy.
He also conveyed other programs to support the creation of vocational graduates who are ready to work, including competency certification for students, implementing scholarship programs, industry-based curriculum adjustments, retooling, retraining, lecturer-teacher competency, teaching practitioner programs and the Teaching Industry program. The Teaching Industry program is a research, development and innovation activity with a collaborative business model between universities and industry. The aim is to improve learning and applied research.
For Endy, this activity is essential because society is currently facing global competition as well as the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Thus, it is necessary to encourage links and matches between vocational education and the industrial world. Apart from PT Sabatani Global Solusindo, TRKI Vocational School Undip also collaborates with PT Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia, PT Nusantara Building Industries (NBI), PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, PT BGR, PT SENA and state-owned companies such as Pertamina, PLN, MIGAS Cepu.
