Muhammad Valdi (Graduate of the Faculty of Law UNDIP): Don’t Hesitate to Start, Be Confident and Try

Being busy outside of college did not make Muhammad Valdi, a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, forget his primary task of going to college on time. This 3.67 GPA achiever has participated in many organizations, such as the Research and Debate Group, the Islamic Student Association, and the Center for Economic Law Studies of Alumni Family Association of the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University. Apart from that, he also actively participated in competitions in the field of business law at the national level, such as the Legal Opinion Competition, Contract Drafting and Negotiation Competition, Paper Presentation Competition, Arbitration Moot Court Competition, Legal Debate and Moot Court. He is also actively involved in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sports hobbies.

He took part in the Internal Debate competition at the Diponegoro Law Fair and won the Finalist position. He then continued by taking part in the Internal Moot Court Competition in 2nd Place in 2019. Muhammad Valdi has participated in several national-level legal competitions from 2020 until graduating in 2023 with detailed achievements, including 1st Place in the Contract Drafting and Negotiation Competition at the Campus Olympics held by PLEADS FH Unpad in 2020; Finalist for the Contract Drafting and Negotiation Competition at the 11th Hafni Sjahruddin Cup held by the FH UI Business Law Society in 2021; 2nd Place in the Paper Presentation Competition at the National Business Law Summit held by PCLC FH Unnes in 2021; 1st Place in Legal Opinion & Best File at the Gadjah Mada Business Law Competition held by the Business Law Community FH UGM in 2022; and semifinalist at the Indonesian National Arbitration Board Moot Court Competition held by the Indonesian National Arbitration Board in 2022.

“The experience while studying at the Faculty of Law Undip was certainly impressive for me. Remembering, I was a gap year alumnus before finally becoming a student at Undip in 2019. Being part of the big Faculty of Law Undip family is a matter of pride for me. Facilities and infrastructure, organizations, alumni, students, as well as all officials and their staff at the Faculty of Law, are very open and provide the widest possible support for student’s interests and talents in exploring themselves to take part in competitions, both academic and non-academic,” said Valdi.

Furthermore, he said that the Faculty of Law Undip alumni network, which is spread across various agencies, is very supportive and pays attention to its juniors. Of course, it makes it very easy for him and the team when carrying out legal research related to the competition they are participating in and helps him know the ins and outs of various legal professions in general. Comprehensively, it is helpful for determining and achieving the goals of working as a corporate lawyer in general.

“For me, education and organizations are an important unit for every student wherever they are. Education gives us the ability to think and analyze more comprehensively, understand and answer existing problems, and be adaptive in following developments over time. Organizations are an excellent forum for students to learn and train hard skills and soft skills as well as to develop their potential, interests and talents,” he said.

“The achievements and accomplishments that I have achieved are not only the result of the team’s hard work and the blessings of my parents but of course, they cannot be separated from the help of all the lecturers, researchers, alumni and seniors and other parties that I cannot mention. I wouldn’t have been able to get this memorable experience if I didn’t join the organization. Therefore, to Dipo Muda in general and the next generation of Faculty of Law Undip in particular, do not hesitate or be afraid to take part in various existing organizations and competitions because, as Helen Hayes said, ‘The expert at anything was once a beginner.’ Don’t hesitate to take the first step in fighting for anything. Convince with faith, try with knowledge and convey it with charity,” he concluded. (LW-Public Relations)
