FPP UNDIP Cultivates Red Long Beans in Jambi Regency

The Agroecotechnology Study Program research team from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Diponegoro University (FPP Undip), conducted a red long beans development program in Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. This research program is funded by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology through a Collaborative Research scheme with ITSNU Jambi.

“This collaborative research program is the beginning of a program to develop red long beans outside Undip. It is hoped that this program will continue for the next three years,” said the Head of the Research Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Florentina Kusmiyati, M.Sc., who is also a professor at FPP Undip. This research also involved young lecturers from the FPP Undip’s Agroecotechnology undergraduate study program, namely Fajrin Pramana Putra, S.P., M.Sc. as the coordinator for the plant cultivation process, and Muhamad Ghazi Agam Sas, S.P., M.Si. as coordinator of plant breeder; as well as the Head of ITSNU Jambi Agronomy Study Program, namely Ir. Aditya Wahyudi, S.P., M.Sc., is the person in charge of the field in Jambi Regency.

The existence of this collaborative research program was welcomed by Dr. Jumisar, S.H., M.E. (Rector of ITSNU Jambi) because it can be used as a learning opportunity for lecturers at ITSNU Jambi regarding research developments on large campuses in Indonesia. “We are delighted with this collaborative research program. We hope that this activity can add to the experience and reputation of ITSNU Jambi because ITSNU Jambi is a new campus that was founded in 2020,” said the Rector of ITSNU Jambi, Dr. Jumisar, S.H., M.E., on Friday (24/11/2023).

Head of the Research Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Florentina Kusmiyati, M.Sc., conveyed that the foundation for this collaborative research on red long beans had been established. The hope for the future is that red long beans will get PVP (Plant Variety Protection) rights, and research can be carried out with other studies with ITSNU Jambi. Considering that the potential of natural resources in Jambi is very abundant and has the potential to be developed. (Undip FPP Team, ed.Ut-PR)
