Undip Community Service Student Designed Ideal Learning Space for Early Childhood Education (Preschool)

The Community Service Program (KKN) organized by Diponegoro University (Undip) is not merely an academic obligation bestowed upon students but also a call to contribute positively to society. Through this program, students not only gain practical field experience but also serve the community by building sustainable solutions. A concrete example of this dedication is the project to create an ideal learning space by redesigning Early Childhood Education (PAUD) buildings.

Having effective and adequate learning spaces is crucial to supporting the success of the learning process. Well-designed facilities that meet the educational needs of children can create a pleasant learning environment, motivating and facilitating the learning process.

Through the Community Service Program (KKN), Kayla Taffania Faridh, an Architecture student at Diponegoro University, redesigned a PAUD (preschool) facility using a participatory approach alongside PAUD management and village officials. Through discussions and meetings with relevant parties, KKN students sought to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and needs faced by the PAUD. Therefore, redesigning the PAUD building in Wonosari Village marks the beginning of an investment in improving the quality of education.

Before embarking on the redesign, students held discussions to assess the site conditions and identify the needs necessary to enhance the learning process. Subsequently, they conducted measurements of the building and land to obtain primary data for designing the PAUD building/facilities. Once the measurements were obtained, students created assets needed to realize the PAUD redesign initiative.

After the project, KKN students provided assets that could serve as capital or investment for the PAUD, including floor plan drawings, 3D building models, and PAUD renderings on A3-sized paper, which were handed over to the village secretary as village archives for future construction in developing more effective PAUD teaching facilities. This project will be a starting point for the village to enhance the effectiveness of learning by redesigning facilities/buildings in related educational institutions. (Kayla ed.
