Undip Community Service Students Encourage Elementary School Students to Save Money

Recognizing the importance of saving money, students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) took the initiative to educate about the discipline of saving. Benedictus Krisna Putra, an Accounting student at Diponegoro University, conducted an education session on “Understanding the Importance of Saving Discipline with the Output of Giving and Making Piggy Banks” on Wednesday (17/01) at SDN 2 Wonosari.

This program was conducted for second-grade students at SDN 2 Wonosari, consisting of 21 students. The activity began with an educational presentation and socialization about the importance of saving. KKN students explained that saving can help children learn to be responsible with their pocket money, live frugally for future needs, manage their finances by determining when and how much money to save and spend, discipline themselves to set aside pocket money, and appreciate money.

The classroom atmosphere during the activity was lively. The students enthusiastically participated in learning about the benefits of saving. At the beginning of the event, the students actively engaged in the Q&A session and focused on the material being presented. The program ran smoothly and achieved its goals. The students gained new knowledge about the importance of saving.

After the presentation on the importance of saving, the students were invited to practice making piggy banks out of cardboard paper. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn were evident from their cheerful faces and attentive gazes as they followed the steps of making the piggy banks. The students carefully observed and followed the instructions given. The process of making the piggy banks was relatively simple, as it only involved sticking various sides of the cardboard that had been taped together. The students were guided to stick these sides neatly and carefully to ensure the stability of the piggy banks. As a token of appreciation for their participation and enthusiasm, the completed piggy banks were then distributed to the students as gifts.

Through this activity, the students can understand the importance of saving, differentiate between needs and wants, and realize the benefits of saving. By making piggy banks, the students can start saving at home on their own efforts or hard work in setting aside their pocket money. (Krisna)
