UNDIP Rector’s Message: Be Proud and Love Indonesia

Diponegoro University (UNDIP) commemorated Pancasila Day on June 1 by holding a flag ceremony at the Widya Puraya field, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Monday (June 3). This year’s Pancasila Day ceremony, themed “Pancasila: The Unifying Spirit of the Nation Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” was attended by the entire academic community and administrative staff at Diponegoro University.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the ceremony leader, delivered a speech from the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BPIP RI), Prof. Drs. K.H. Yudian Wahyudi, M.A., Ph.D. It was conveyed that the theme of this year’s Pancasila Day ceremony signifies that Pancasila unites us despite our differences in ethnicity, religion, culture, and language as we move towards a progressive, independent, and sovereign 100-year-old Indonesia.

Pancasila’s existence is a blessing from God Almighty for the Indonesian nation. Pancasila embodies noble values that uphold inclusiveness, tolerance, and cooperation. Our diversity is a blessing woven into the national identity of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity).

Prof. Suharnomo, concluding the speech from the Head of BPIP RI, invited all components of the nation to work together in maintaining the gift of Pancasila through the commemoration of Pancasila Day on June 1.

“We must work together and collaborate to maintain harmony and unity as a manifestation of the values of Pancasila. May this Pancasila Day celebration inspire us to continue practicing Pancasila for a prosperous, fair, and respected Indonesia on the world stage. May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, God Almighty, always provide us with protection and guidance for the glory of the Indonesian nation and state,” as Prof. Yudian’s message read by UNDIP Rector.

Further in his address, Prof. Suharnomo stated that by commemorating Pancasila Day, the Indonesian nation possesses excellent social capital to be proud of, including religious tolerance and remarkable social generosity, as indicated by the World Giving Index.

“However, there is still room for improvement for the Indonesian nation. According to the World Civility Index (Microsoft 2019 – 2021), Indonesia is considered the least courteous nation in Southeast Asia in terms of online comments. Whereas we are known for our friendliness and kindness, this presents a challenge for Indonesia in bridging the gap between real-world politeness and online behavior,” explained Prof. Suharnomo.

“Hopefully, with improved literacy, Indonesians will become educated and possess manners that can be exemplary, making online behavior as good as real-world behavior,” he said.

Prof. Suharnomo also encouraged all campus residents to appreciate their multicultural nation. Valuing our nation is equivalent to respecting our founding fathers.

“Travel abroad frequently. Traveling makes us love Indonesia even more,” he said. “Engaging with many people from different countries will make us even more amazed by our nation, Indonesia. Indonesia is the best. Let us never tire of loving this nation,” asserted the UNDIP Rector. “UNDIP Bermartabat, UNDIP Bermanfaat, UNDIP Jaya,” Prof. Suharnomo declared with the slogan echoed at the end of his speech.

This ceremony also introduced the Vice Rectors for the 2024-2029 period and other newly appointed officials, including Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. as Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs; Dr. Warsito Kawedar, S.E., M.Si., Akt. as Vice Rector for Resources; Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T. as Vice Rector for Communication and Business; and Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D. as Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. Hopefully, UNDIP, with a performance-based and track-record-oriented working cabinet, will meet public expectations.

Additionally, the best units/departments/faculties were announced based on indicators such as presence before the ceremony, lineup neatness, and solemnity during the ceremony. The Faculty of Public Health (FKM) received the best participant award, earning a prize of one (1) smart TV unit. Rector Prof. Suharnomo directly handed over the award to the Dean of FKM UNDIP, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM, M.Kes. (DHW ed. Ut-Public Relations)
