UNDIP’s KH Nusantara Ship is Ready to Compete in the Yanagawa Solar Boat Competition in Japan

Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held a send-off event for the Ksatria Hydros team, Hydrotech UNDIP, and the launch of the KH Nusantara ship on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Faculty of Engineering Dean’s Building, UNDIP, Semarang. At this event, the KH Nusantara ship was unveiled for the first time in front of the UNDIP Rector, represented by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UNDIP faculty members, and guests. KH Nusantara is the latest innovative ship from the Ksatria Hydros team, Hydrotech UNDIP, consisting of UNDIP Naval Engineering students who will compete with KH Nusantara in the Yanagawa Solar Boat Competition in Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.

The Yanagawa Solar Boat Competition is a promotional event for the unique urban development in Yanagawa, Japan, which utilizes the riverside environment and effectively uses solar energy. This solar-powered boat competition aims to raise awareness about environmental and energy issues and maximize the use of water and solar energy.

Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at UNDIP, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., representing the Rector of UNDIP, stated, “The prototype creation uses a monodisciplinary approach, meaning Naval Engineering students solely did it. In the future, it would be better to synergize with other engineering disciplines within the Faculty of Engineering at UNDIP.” Prof. Heru also expressed his hopes that the Ksatria Hydros, Hydrotech UNDIP team would achieve the best results and that their efforts would be fruitful.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Jamari, S.T., M.T., expressed his highest appreciation to the Ksatria Hydros, Hydrotech UNDIP team. “Thank you for your hard work, students. You bring honor to Indonesia and Diponegoro University on the international stage,” he said.

In his report, Lilik Achmad Prasetyo, Head of the Hydrotech UNDIP team, elaborated on the technological innovation of this solar cell-based ship. KH Nusantara is a solar-powered boat created by the Ksatria Hydros, Hydrotech UNDIP team. It utilizes breakthrough technology in shipbuilding, thereby enriching maritime industry research. It is hoped that KH Nusantara will compete in the Yanagawa Solar Boat Competition in Japan on July 28, 2024, and achieve a proud accomplishment. (Titis/Sahila – Public Relations)
