“Welcome, Young Diponegoro 2024! Make the orientation a success with burning enthusiasm!” exclaimed Aldi Kurniawan, Chairman of the Closing Ceremony of the Diponegoro Muda Orientation (ODM) 2024 at the UNDIP stadium in Tembalang campus (Sunday, 18/8). In his report, he mentioned that 13,500 new UNDIP students for the 2024/2025 academic year attended the peak of the new student welcoming event, which carried the theme “Expanding Boundaries, Reaching Capabilities,” highlighting issues in the field of technology and the dynamics of the beginning of the Industrial Revolution 5.0.
“We are grateful to present one of our expressions of love to UNDIP and to the new students, which is then embodied in the UNDIP COMPLETE values (Communicator, Professional, Leader, Thinker, Entrepreneur, and Educator), the Diponegoro values, and the ODM values themselves, namely Awareness, Independency, Proficiency, and Consistency,” he said.
Diponegoro Muda Orientation or (Orientasi Diponegoro Muda) ODM is an annual series of activities that serve as the initial gateway for the new student orientation process at Diponegoro University. ODM is here to provide new students with an initial overview of the UNDIP environment.
The event began with a stunning performance by around 3,000 new UNDIP students, forming 8 ODM UNDIP 2024 Mosaic configurations, drawing on the philosophy of Swa Abinaya as a creation of Diponegoro Muda, bringing innovation in the era of technology through footprints in Veneti Van Java, The Heritage of Semarang. Diponegoro Muda is committed to building the archipelago through education, technology, and the environment as an initial step towards the Industrial Revolution 5.0.
In his speech, the Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the successful implementation of ODM 2024 as the final event in welcoming new students. He advised new students that, as Diponegoro was a very religious figure, they should continue to be diligent in worship and righteous deeds as part of their gratitude for being accepted into UNDIP, and their learning should be based on religiosity.
“Moreover, Diponegoro was a caring figure, so care among friends must be built and enhanced. Never let a friend suffer due to our indifference. Lastly, socializing in higher education requires extra vigilance from oneself. As new students who are maturing, we must monitor and manage our steps,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
“Never associate with the wrong things, especially drugs and the like, and maintain proper relationships between men and women. Also, avoid anything related to terrorism, so please keep that in mind,” continued the UNDIP Rector.
“Enjoy life as it is, strive with all your might with a joyful heart to achieve success. Participate in activities; don’t just be a student who went home as the classes were finished. Be active in many things, and follow your passion,” advised Prof. Suharnomo.
Meanwhile, the President of the UNDIP Student Executive Board for 2024, Farid Darmawan, in his speech, mentioned that ODM is the first opportunity to instill values that are expected to be the foundation for Diponegoro Muda to develop and contribute their best at Diponegoro University. “We hope that new students can enjoy their education comfortably and must continue the spirit of struggle on campus, representing Prince Diponegoro as a figure who embodies honesty, courage, and care,” said Farid.
The presence of Maudy Ayunda as a speaker at the Dipscussion session titled “The New Era of Technology Transformation in the Industrial Revolution 5.0” added to the excitement of the ODM 2024 Closing Ceremony. Maudy shared her knowledge, insights, and views, also providing motivation and encouragement to new students as agents of change and drivers of progress who are aware and responsible for utilizing the potential of the metaverse in society.
“With the rapid development of technology, acceleration and revolution require the younger generation always to be adaptive, independent learners of new technological changes, whatever their form, so that they have self-confidence, are well-rounded, think critically (curiosity), are more focused, disciplined, and have communication skills that will make us more resilient,” she added.
According to Maudy, education is critical in the era of the Industrial Revolution 5.0. Still, there are social implications, especially for future technological developments, so we must be more adept at evaluating and filtering the overwhelming amount of information out there. “The rapid pace of technology, with its positive side and challenges, makes us more process-oriented with our thoughts, instilling in us the culture that ‘there are no shortcuts in life, so why not start now.’ But beyond that, we also need to be skilled in using technology in contexts as tools that support rather than replace our thinking, originality, and creativity, but rather something that supports or aids us,” explained Maudy.
