UNDIP Board of Professors Discusses Integration of OHS and Technology Efforts to Achieve a Healthy and Safe Lifestyle

The Academic Senate’s Board of Professors of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) organized a webinar titled “UNDIP’s Professor Talk – Thought Sharing of the Academic Senate’s Board of Professors of Universitas Diponegoro on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 13:00 WIB. The event was held online via Zoom meeting and broadcast live on the official UNDIPTV YouTube channel, with the theme “Integrating Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Technology to Achieve a Healthy and Safe Lifestyle.”

The event was officially opened by the Chair of the UNDIP Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ir. Purwanto, DEA. In his opening remarks, Prof. Purwanto stated that the theme of this webinar aligns with the mandate of Law No. 1 of 1970 concerning Workplace Safety. “Workplace safety is a right for workers and an obligation for employers,” said Prof. Purwanto.

“This topic is also closely related to various work environments, including industry, business, and academia. Many tasks in universities pose health and safety risks, such as laboratory work conducted by researchers, lecturers, students, and staff, as well as research and community service activities outside the campus,” added Prof. Purwanto.

He expressed hope that this Thought Sharing Webinar by the Board of Professors would positively contribute to improving Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) across sectors and help achieve a healthy, safe, and secure lifestyle.

At the same event, the Chair of Commission A of the UNDIP Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ir. Delianis Pringgenies, M.Sc., highlighted that this webinar reflects UNDIP’s commitment—particularly from the Board of Professors—to promoting high-quality research and contributing to the goal of creating a healthy and safe society.

“OHS is a critical issue in the industrial world, with numerous workplace accidents occurring in various countries, including Indonesia, resulting in casualties, injuries, and significant financial losses. However, we must also address health issues arising from unhealthy lifestyles, such as poor dietary habits and lack of physical activity. Therefore, integrating OHS and technology is a crucial step toward achieving a healthy and safe lifestyle for all Indonesians,” stated Prof. Delianis.

The webinar, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ani Purwanti, S.H., M.Hum., featured three speakers:

  1. Sukri Palutturi, SKM, M.Kes., M.Sc.PH., Ph.D., a professor and Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at Universitas Hasanuddin, presented on “Strengthening Health Policies to Support Healthy, Safe, and Comfortable Universities.”
  2. Dr. Ir. Nuroji, M.T., a professor from the Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Diponegoro, discussed “The Role of Technology in Optimizing OHS in Buildings and the Environment.”
  3. Hanifa Maher Denny, S.K.M., MPH., Ph.D., a professor from the Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Diponegoro, elaborated on “Integrating Occupational Health & Safety and Technology to Achieve a Healthy and Safe Lifestyle.”

The webinar emphasized that occupational health and safety can be effectively integrated with technology in work processes to minimize accident risks. Technological integration enhances workers’ understanding and awareness of the importance of occupational health and safety factors.
